Great choice of Van guys! We've had a Gator X now for about 18 months and we love it; for us it`s the perfect size for Touring with our Hilux & it tows like a dream with the Cruisemaster Suspension - Safe travels

That’s very reassuring to hear! We’ve been living in it for a couple of weeks and it’s a great van. We think the size will be perfect for our adventures and also comfortable enough for life on the road ☺️

Thanks! We’ve been sleeping in it this week since we’ve sold all our couches 😝 and it’s been great ☺️

Great vid and congratulations- we love the JB Gator. The only concern I have is the tow ball weight, single axel vans are notoriously heavy on the ball.
@Perth4WDandCamping3 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes many can be heavy. We were pleased to find one with only a 170kg towball weight ☺️ This will increase slightly with gas and toolboxes full but this was considerable lighter on the ball compared to others we looked at

Wow! Well done guys. Mark, have seen you on the road, were in Ocean Reef. Would be good to get a quick beer with you before you go. Cheers 🍻

Oh nice one! We’ll be around the northern suburbs until early Nov so some time to settle into the van and plan where we’re going. Perhaps a good opportunity to catch up with a few people before we hit the road

Congrats on the new van. We have a 18ft single axle family van too. I’m curious to know your weights when travelling if you don’t mind sharing.
@Perth4WDandCampingАй бұрын
No worries. We’re 6300kg fully loaded when travelling with 260kg of water
@AdventuringPalsАй бұрын
@ that’s good. Whats your rear axle like? Thats my biggest limitation with our next gen ranger. But we also have a roof top tent which is very heavy.
@Perth4WDandCampingАй бұрын
@AdventuringPals around 2T. We do have the Pedders GVM upgrade so that has increased both axle capacities

They are a nice van, no doubt, but the payload is very small. 2 adults, 2 kids, clothes and food, water, you will be surprised how quick it adds up......be prepared to get rid of stuff when you have it weighed. Good luck with the travels.....
@Perth4WDandCamping3 ай бұрын
634kg payload in the van is pretty good. We’ll be fine - even with full water we’ll have 444kg for food, clothes and misc gear. Weighing up getting a further GVM upgrade on the car too prior to the trip just to give us a bit extra breathing space. With the canopy we have a lot of flexibility with where we run the weight and of course will get everything weighed professionally pier to taking off

Just make sure you get a wheel alignment done after about 1000k’s….. and once or twice a year after that depending on where you go.
@Perth4WDandCamping3 ай бұрын
Greta call mate! I actually just had it done yesterday. Very worthwhile for any new van - and particularly on this one given its running expensive tyres. To JBs credit, the alignment was pretty good - only about 1mm of adjustment via laser adjustment ☺️

Hi Mark, congratulations on the new van, and new life! As the owner of a Pajero Sport, which I love, but recently upgraded to a V6 Ranger for towing, and a Chinese hybrid van, I've followed your adventures with interest. One of your requirements for the new van was low towball weight, which i completely understand. It can be a bit of an unknown and turn out to be a rude shock when you receive the van. Curious to hear what your experience has been with the Gator X. Cheers, Josh
@Perth4WDandCamping3 ай бұрын
Hey Josh. Thanks mate - we’re loving the new van. Finding a van that ticked all the boxes was tricky and weight is very important. The towball mass on the Gator X is only 170kg which was a big decision factor. Looking forward to putting it through its paces from mid November when we start our trip ☺️

Caravans are a dangerous mobile Unit to tow around while travelling around our beautiful Country, there are a lot of things you need to consider for safety reasons, Sorry to say this , but 90% of people have got no idea, they place themselves and others in dangerous circumstances. This is my take guys, not directed to you as I know you have plenty of experience , just to some of your viewers who might decide to jump into it without having any understanding,,,, Thanks guys, great Caravan, wish you all the best on your travels.
@Perth4WDandCamping2 ай бұрын
For sure you should know what you’re getting into and must be very competent towing. Having the right tow vehicle and suspension set up is one part only. You need to understand how to safely tow, balance weight, braking and understand how to react to things like caravan sway. All these things can be learnt and these new vans have excellent safety features, but many on the road appear to not understand these fundamentals or apply common sense at times.
