5 weeks before we were supposed to leave on our half lap in our camper trailer hubby broke his neck. Of course we had to postpone but as soon as he was given the all clear we took off. Still had to be very careful and do rehab but best way to heal.

Hello, I am very interested to know what your current GCM weight is with the van and loaded is? Wondering the benefits and why a certified GVM would be required instead of just installing a upgradded suspension kit, being GCM can't be exceeded. Cheers
@Perth4WDandCamping4 күн бұрын
Hi. We’re around 6300kg fully loaded with passengers. If running a tray/canopy set up like us and you’re towing, you’ll easily exceed your GVM unless you have it increased. Not sure if you’ve watched our Pedders suspension video, but I explain this in a little more detail. Even if running the standard tub, there can be benefits to getting the GVM increased depending on what you’re towing and the ball weight of the van. We tested the standard suspension towing with our last van and found it too soft for towing.

Mines held up fine, I did upgrade the poles to composite and bought a darche mid pole as an upgrade. Just need to give it a full 24 hour soak in a bathtub then dry it out in the sun. I also used Gearaid sealer on the PVC and on any sus seams, then finished it off with Burke & wills swag waterproofer inside and out. Had zero leaks in the rain during the rainy season. If it dies, it dies and then I’ll get a crashpad but yeah going well :)

Impressed by the tow ball mass. 200kg for an 18' single axle van ✅ (depending on ATM of course!) Speaking of which, what did the van weigh fully loaded?

If your roller shutter doesn’t go all the way forwards or backwards, press and hold the button in the tray until the shutter stops , hold for additional 7 seconds and then press for the other direction and hold for additional 7 seconds. Now it should move automatically fully open or close with only pressing the button once.

If you are looking for the back up key location, it’s in the centre console under a mat. Remove the mat and the key fob outline will be there.

Super cool, but weighting costs benefits, wouldn't be cheaper and less problematic for the truck if just got a big American truck instead, as everything would be original and have warranty and those trucks can tow a lot more, yeah those are made for tow and not carry large loads in the bed?
@Perth4WDandCamping18 күн бұрын
Hey mate. The big trucks have a place and certainly are better for towing but not as good offroad. Wider on the tracks and a longer wheelbase. You can certainly still take them off the beaten track but personally prefer a smaller vehicle. Interestingly the payload of vehicles such as the Ram 1500 and F150 are smaller than the Ranger so if you want to run a canopy, mods and tow, you may still find yourself needing to go down the route of a GVM upgrade anyway
@KlausVillaca17 күн бұрын
Got it, thanks for clarify it for me. Makes a lot sense

For the same size disc =the heavier the better =more heat tolerance . Disc design and having a high quality iron content will improve heat tolerance also . Dimples and slots are always a great idea . Drilled rotors tend to micro crack .
@Perth4WDandCamping20 күн бұрын
Good point! I had dimpled / spotted rotors on a few sport road cars in the past and always found them to be a nice upgrade ☺️
@sherylryan703820 күн бұрын
Stop looking at the camera it's rude and distracting to watch the caravan should brake itself better to put disc brakes on van avast improvement we have them never think about van it looks after itself think you went wrong way cost is same
@Perth4WDandCamping12 күн бұрын
Always the option of adding discs to the van too but we’ve found the brakes on the JB are great. I’m not always towing so there’s the additional benefit of better brake performance for our offroad adventures
@NiznerolA20 күн бұрын
What is the ballpark cost of the brake upgrade alone? Any consideration to do the rears?
@Perth4WDandCamping20 күн бұрын
Best to check in with your local Pedders, however the Part is listed online for just over $3,621.88 plus install. The vast majority of your braking is through the fronts so this is where you’ll see the most benefit from an upgrade

@Perth4WDandCamping21 күн бұрын
G’day mate. Yes sure does. I found when I was towing stock, the original brakes were fine. The whole set up is pretty heavy now and the existing brakes felt lacklustre - both everyday driving and towing. We managed to get about 150k towing in yesterday and the difference is noticeable. Like anything car related, a lot can differ set up to set up so glad it’s working for you 😀

I don't know how much $$$, I'm assuming 2/3 k, these big ticket items (good products) are out of the price range of normal everyday people with families, I've a good paying job but still priced out of these items, not bagging just being honest
@Perth4WDandCamping21 күн бұрын
Appreciate that mate. We’ve made these decisions based on our situation of full-time travel to enhance our towing set up. The key is working out what to prioritise based on your own needs and budget.
