Done from scratch (that is, not just nicking someone else's MIDI files and changing the instruments like most people do), a note for note cover of the entire Super Hang On soundtrack using Super Nintendo instruments. Super Nintangon? Super... Hangtendon?
(Based on the Mega Drive / Genesis version)

This is brilliant work dude! I especially love the rendition of Sprinter at 5:46. That song is my favorite in the game.

My good Sir, I take my hat off for you. This arrangement is truly outstanding!! As I grew up with this game (it was one of the first I got, in 1993), I have very fond memories of the game and the soundtrack, and it really was amazing to listen to this!!

Men, this is a really good job. I used to play SHG on my Mega Drive unit, wich have unferior sound than Arcade cabinet. But with these songs, and the mode 7, a very decent SHG is possible on SNES.

@@vectororbitex7866 Yep, mostly Mega Man X. But the snare is from F-Zero, and I think there's bass from Battletoads in one track if I remember correctly. Oh, and the bells on Winning Run are from M. Bison's stage in Street Fighter II.

These tracks are much longer than any SNES game track would ever be due to memory restraints in most carts however it does sound like a SNES so well done.

These are only approx. 3 minute loops, some SNES games have 6 or 7 minute loops.

@@johnbonhamsinger disagree, the biggest issue with the SNES was how short the loops were as it was sample based the music actually takes up a large amount of memory space, the megadrive on the other hand did not have this issue as the FM synth takes only a fraction of the memory a SNES track does, these tracks are also very long and are not similar to the usually short snes tracks. They could drop the quality of samples on the snes to increase the length if needed but seldom did.

That might have been the case if the SNES was limited to streaming digital audio to make its music but that's just now how sample based audio worked on the SNES. The only thing the SPU's memory limited was the length and quality of the individual samples themselves that could be used, which made the instruments sound a bit less than realistic despite potentially coming from samples of real instruments. How these samples were played back and triggered in order to make a song would have probably been just as efficient as any Genesis MIDI file equivalent. Remember other consoles also used digital audio samples in their music and sound generation. In general music and sound may have taken up more space on the cartridge itself on SNES games compared to Genesis games though but the programmers were still free to make their musical arrangements as complex as they needed them to be while balancing storage requirements for other aspects of the games.
