BBC1 controller on Live and Kicking (including a young Matt Edmondson on the phone!)

Peter Salmon, controller of BBC One back in the late 90s guests on Live and Kicking. This feature was named specifically when the programme was relaunched a year later as the sort they wouldn't do in the new format...
Look out for a young Matt Edmondson on line 2 during the phone in! Matt featured a clip of this appearance on his first Radio 1 show on 14th March 2010.

Really, it was the competition from SMTV (after years of ITV not being bothered) which made this sort of feature untenable. SMTV certainly did for the "serious" bits in Saturday morning programmes, but what we didn't know when it was in its pomp was that it was actually quite late in the Saturday morning era as we had known it ...
