HaHa I recognized my speaker on here and can still see the gaffa tape I stuck on it, thanks a lot for the repair Edward your a star, for anyone watching this video I can say if you need anything electronic repairing then these guys are the people to contact, they give an excellent service, are very helpfull and don't give up on anything. The speaker in this video is mine and I know it was in a sorry state when I sent it in because someone had done it before and not very well to put it mildly but Edward took on the challenge and got it sorted. Thanks again from a very satisfied customer and I'll be sending more work your way.

Ian Wilson what was up with it? Do they have good bass?
@ianwilson27196 жыл бұрын
The problem I had was distortion but I bought them second hand and someone had been in there before and made a mess of them such as putting in wrong components etc, Edward had a lot of work to do to get it working again but it's perfect now. Yes they do have an excellent bass response too

Do these speakers have a built in limiter circuit? Which components are responsible for this. I had a look at the schematic but above my IQ level :)
@razenby Жыл бұрын
Yes they do but it is a very limited limiter as it only looks at the whole signal band. If you concentrate the power in s a strong HF content with the volume turned right up on the speaker you can reliably blow the HF driver. i.e a shouty female vocals on a mic, Don't use the cut/boost control run flat. Keep the volume setting as low as you can on the speaker and drive the amp harder from your source. Finally use a mixer with a limiter if you can. Otherwise keep spare HF drivers handy.

Look at the videos. There is a video on the channel on how to test a 515 tweeter with a multimeter,. I have no idea what faults you are seeing.

Changed the diaphragm on the 2414h and still no treble. 2414h produces sound with a MP3 signal directly to it, but no sound when plugged into 515xt amp.

Hello Magic Smoke, I bought a second hand JBL EON 500 and I realised that after 30-40 mins, the sound looses the voice part, I mean in a song where you have music and voice, you can hear the music and the basses, but you can't hear the voice. I thought about a faulty capacitor. Do you have some idea about? I haven't opened it yet, but before doing so, perhaps your opinion would help me a lot. Have a nice day!
@razenby3 жыл бұрын
If the sound very muffled then check the HF drive (tweeter) and the connections to it, It could also be the tweeter going open circuit when it gets warm. Pretty rare but I have seen it, So check all space connectors are tight, Swap tweeters and test the speaker to rule out the tweeter, The HF power amplifier itself is usually very reliable however the MDRC circuitry in the preamp input board has any operational amplifier chips that can fail or become intermittent. In the power amplifiers there are the two capacitors (C113, C213) mentioned in the EON 210 repair video video that can lose value and cause intermittent operation. . I can't remember which one is in the HF amp but you can work that out. Check them. Good luck.

Hi just brought a pair of JBL EON 515XT one switches on OK no noise not a problem and bass works fine, but the other when I switch it on it sounds like a fan turning on after a few seconds goes off , I then noticed the mid range and top are working but no bass and when I turn the speaker off it gives out a thump noise could this be loose wires or do I have a more bigger problem thanks mark

Hi I have a pair of 515xt's one is noticeably more robust than the other. The treble control on the suspect one has little effect. My first suspicion is the HF driver is not putting out, though I can hear something. What is your opinion? I know how to use a DVM, though I don't have a scope. - I guess I could take them both apart and swap the drivers, a lot more work but it would quickly answer the question. Looks like a LOT more work! FWIW, they're in pristine physical and cosmetic condition so the likely hood they got banged around is slim. Thanks WG
@razenby3 жыл бұрын
Obviously the driver is the most common cause of HF failure First check the 10 Ohm resistor next to the HF amp to make sure the legs aren't fractured. See the video on this channel that deals with this.

more info... apparently one has more gain than the other. I'll take a DB meter and do a test on various frequency points of each unit and report back. stand by! Wayne

OK, problem may be identified. I had a suspect cable going to another keyboard that seemed to have interfered somehow, pulled and signal is up. However, listening to program material from my DAW, there is a detectable amount of distortion from that HF driver. A little swapping and isolattion might have answered my original question. BTW, your video, audio and production value is "right up there" . Nice Work! Wayne

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to remove the lower mixer board from my 515. The mains power connectors have come undone inside the internal enclosure for the back panel. I've removed all the internal screws holding the mixer board/back panel in, but it still won't budge. Does it lift out from the inside of the case, or does it lift out from the back of the case?

Hi I have a 515xt which I bought second hand and what it was doing was cycling on and off and I pulled it a part but as you mentioned I am a very keen observer when taking things apart .But when taking the leads from the main switch the usual col our coding is Brown is live and Blue is Neutral that is pretty much the standard .But I can see that in some you tube videos they seem to put the brown as neutral and blue to the live on the main switch section .The other end it specifies where the blue lead goes and where the Brown goes .can you please help me with some advice,on this section because I put it in the way you had it Brown Live and Blue Neutral and it started to smoke at the Power induct or in the section next to the yellow transformer the part called Coilcraft 335 (D) I don't know if it is now damaged the part but I turned it off and awaiting some help from you.thanks in advance Greg D'cruz.

Functionally transposing the brown and blue wires wont stop the unit working. The mains side is isolated from ground and the audio. The spade terminals are different sizes so you shouldn't be able to get them reversed. The problem would occur is there were a short to ground inside the unit as the internals would remain live if the fuse in the power socket fuse holder were to blow. The smoke is due to a blown inductor or LNK302 chip. This is a bad design that is a frequent problem when the insulation on the small coil breaks down and sparks and the speaker powers up and down. Change the 1000 uHenry inductor and the LNK302 chip. Then it will work. If you have a continuity meter then the brown wire should be connected to the fuse. (Take the fuse out and probe the contacts). Make sure you are aware of the risks as there are high voltages inside.
@chantelledcruz77465 жыл бұрын
Thanks for getting Back ,But the spade terminals going into the main switch assembly are both the very same size which in a bad way of doing thinks ,I have checked with my multi meter with the fuse wiring that the live is live should I put it back the way it was before where in the Brown lead was to (N) and Blue to (L) and on the main pcb as marked brown to brown and blue to blue.please advise.The other thing physically looking at the chip LKN302 it looks fine no burn marks or damage but the inductor one side of it is all burnt called coil craft 335 (D) if I was to change it and the same part is not available what can I replace it with and where can I get this part I am from Australia ,is there a place world wide where I can get these parts .As you mentioned should I just go ahead and replace both at the same time and avoid waste of time both the 100uHenry and LNK302 .Please advise where the components can be purchased .We have RS components which is Radio spares do you think I will be able to get these parts from them .Thanks for all your Help in trying to get this unit working,Greg.I have re read your reply and noted that the Brown to the fuse line of path will do that .If you can help me out with the other bit will be happy.Just as a matter of interest the components d368 and c368both on the track side has solder dry joints and the heat sink pad on the reverse side has no thermal transfer just barely the sheet will put some paste if I get it working what are your thoughts on this observation.Greg
@razenby5 жыл бұрын
Greg, Farnell stock both parts. The inductor you need is the Wurth PD2 series rated at 400VDC Farnell part ref 1869783. The LNK302DG-TL Farnell order code 2920879RL. That should sort it. Don't over tighten the screws. You can pierce the heatsink insulators. Good luck.

Most Bass issues I have seen all relate to the loudspeaker driver. When the amplifier LF channel fails invariably there is no LF output at all. You may have an unusual fault but is is unlikely both have failed wit the same unusual fault. What are the chances?
