Magic, THANK YOU so much for guiding me to a working Jbl EON210p. To those who may have a broken 210p, follow this video, but also watch Magic Smoke's other videos on the JBL series. There are many similarities in the units, and these videos walk through many of the issues that come up!!

Horrific design ? A travesty ? I like this video already. I previously watched a video by an American gentleman (Electronic tech) who knew nothing (all components "bad" or "good"),so your video is refreshing due to actually knowing what you're doing. I'm off to see your other offerings.

Thank you very much for your great videos, especially this one 👍 I own an Eon 210P which recently stopped working.. won’t power on at all. I’ve been thinking of replacing the entire power amp/supply with something like an Icepower 200AS2, which takes 230V and even has an accesory power out +-18V. It would fit nicely into the enclosure and would actually be a nice upgrade. Do you have a pinout for the 2x10 mixer connector? You mentioned in another comment that the mixer needs +-15V power, so I assume this will be a few of those pins, in addition to the master out audio signals. Anything else I’m forgetting here?

Check the impedance of your drivers. A lot of JBL is 2 ohm nominal. IcePower stated minim 3,5. It could be a really simple fault where you need a 1 dollar part. fixt it.
@Sidelobes Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the hint about the impedance, didn’t have that on my radar at all 👍👍 I will dig deeper and see if I really cannot find the fault in the jbl power supply first

Hi i have been watching your videos and they are very good. Have you got any information on a JBL EON 208 it is dead, mosfets are good and not blown, cannot find any shorts, what do you recommend, have you got a circuit diagram please thanks Stephen
@razenby Жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen. There are two caps in the output stage you can see the info on these caps in the JBL315 video. First thing to do replace these 10uF aluminium caps. Have a look at the 315 video. The schematic and problems are almost identical.

I have a very weird issue with one of these. Apparently it works fine, but Right speaker output produces quick tweeter overheating. I've found out that right output outputs about 130VAC, regardless of Master volume setting!! It seems that speaker crossover filters that out from woofer, but that voltage makes its way to the tweeter. I don't know what frequency is that (my multimeter goes crazy if I try to measure frequency) but the tweeter is unable to reproduce it and turns it into heat. It has also burned two of the ceramic SMD caps (C703 and C704) that are in the small PCB screwed to the psu/amp shield. The Left output seems normal. What would you look at first? This board is not very repair friendly.
@razenby Жыл бұрын
They do take a bit of getting to know. Your measurement method or meter as the Amp outputs max about 40 V peak at the speaker terminals on full output. Does the bass lo-range sound seem OK. I have had a few amps where the LF and HF wiring is swapped and that burns out HF driver. The Blue wires got to the HF driver and the green to the LF. It sounds as though you may have HF instability - Either in the main amp preamp/input board. This is an ultrasonic parasitic oscillation in the drive somewhere. You can't hear it but it packs plenty of power. The board with the burned caps is the speaker connection board with the speaker socket? If yes, then the caps on there can only really be damaged by very high overvoltage to the LF driver connection. I have repaired hundreds of these AMPs and I have NEVER seen the power output FETs blown. They are extremely robust. There is always an exception. First change the capacitors in the output half bridge bridge high side reservoir 10uF C118 and C218. I you have one of these open then change them anyway. See the EON315 videos the amp circuit is identical and there is more information. You may need an oscilloscope and a schematic.

@@razenby Thanks for your help. I haven’t found schematics for this model, but since you say it’s very close to EON 315, I’ve found a schematic for this one.
@Chungalin Жыл бұрын
@@razenby It’s very strange. At Right side, C218, C219 and C229 have lost all their capacitance, while at Left side C118, C119 and C129 are perfectly OK (100nF/100V). I’m afraid that replacing caps will not be the end of this issue, because something has damaged them.
@Chungalin Жыл бұрын
@@razenby I’ve replaced C219 and C229 with a single 220nF/100V film cap, extracted from output stage of another digital amplifier. And C218, replaced with C118, which is perfectly OK. Done the same in the Left channel. The apparent problem is gone. Both channels sound fine and tweeter is cool. Still bugs me what caused this total capacitance loss in all 3 caps in Right channel. Voltage to amp mosfets is ±54V, same at both channels. Seems very tight to me, considering that these HF filter caps are 100V rated.

Hi Very informative video. I received a 210p in for repair,dead, nothing is shorted in power supply or outputs. Where is the voltage derived to power the B+ relay. With out a schematic, tough to follow. Thanks for any help you can supply.
@razenby2 жыл бұрын
Check the LNL chip is giving 12 to 15 volts across the output capacitor. If you have no shorted FETS it is often the LNK chip or the buck inductor. (See LNK302 datasheet). Also check C118 and C218 10uF 4mm DIA electrolytics. in the power output bridge drive high FET drive voltage pump.. These are a few of my favorite things.

@@razenby Thanks for the tips ESR was off on C118 and C218...still the same, I have ordered the LNK chip all else looks OK.

Hi Magic. Have you ever come across a prx 518s with distorted low sounds and also vrx932lap with boiling water kind of sounds coming out of the tweeter amp section, the woofer amp section is okay. cable isnt loose. wish oscilioscopes were cheap here in fiji, but....... saving up for one, than i'l probe the heck out of these things.lol.

I have come across all types of faults. Boiling and bubbling used to be called motor boating. Can be caused by all sorts of defective components but commonly damaged or defective operational amplifiers in the input conditioning and processing sections.

Magic Smoke, I have a 210P with no power, Pulled it apart and on the opposite side C630 has let the smoke out, Do you know the value for this Cap? Your video is great information, I'm not sure I'm up to the very tight space. The FET's are IR GB20B60PD1 on the amp I have. I was looking for a part 2 but maybe you did not have the same fate with the cap on the bottom side.
@razenby4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, you are gonna have to change all the semi conductors and the passives in thw FET drive circuit o the power supply. Probably everything got fried when the FETs expired. I have repaired tons of these. Have a look at this video to get an idea of the procedure. If you get stuck I have some 210s here waiting for repair so let me have any specific questions. You mean R630 in the FET drive circuit. If not sen me a photo to ark.mail@gmx.com

Hi magic, can u assist in reusing the mixer section only, or use an alternative power ND amp. I also own one of those but dead, I need ways that I can reuse the mixer
@razenby4 жыл бұрын
The mixer section only has the MBDRC circuitry to model the enclosure to the amplifier and drivers. If you do want to use it than it has HF and LF differential outputs that drive out at 3V P-P so you need 2 independent amplifier channels with differential inputs to drive the enclosure. (Sometimes called balanced inputs). The mixer/ input boards requires a dual 15V DC supply at about 250mA. (+15V and -15V rails).

I have the same PA from jbl. Could I use my speakers with another amp/mixer if my ampis blown ?
@razenby4 жыл бұрын
You could but probably wouldn't sound good because the speaker has an audio compressors built in to the pre-amplifier that model the signal to match the dynamics of the speaker cones & enclosure so it sounds great. Get your fixed and the reliability modification done then they will last.

Hi Jorge. I don't do lessons. Happy to advise. Most 210s suffer from exactly the same problem. If you change all the components shown in the video it will work. You cant change some - need to change all else you will be back to square one when you first power up.

Blimey! Not a good look from Crown. BTW, looks like Crown is still terrible at designing reliable class-d amplifiers. There are quite a few threads in electronics repair forums, with disgruntled customers complaining about either entire racks blowing up during gigs, units being defective again shortly after being repaired, or units that were DOA or died soon after being plugged in right out of the box. And the posts are quite recent, too.

Design is s strong term. I would call the circuit design cut and paste old designs complete with warts and all . I don't think they have any real designers on their team and no real understanding of reliability. . A bunch of schoolboys who don't understand the nuance of reliable design.
