We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning kzbin.infoUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

Most of the people can't really understand the difference between these two speakers, which comes down to music taste. If you are a person that listens to bass-based songs, you should really go for the Charge 3, but if you are listening to songs with mids and highs you should go for the Flip 4 for the cleaner sound.

Also it does matter what kind of /size space you're going to use it in - and as he mentioned, how much portability you need. Personally, I'd go for the Xtreme (not the Xtreme 2) over the Charge 3... That's the one I decided on - but I just broke down and got the Flip 4 as well and I love it and the portable size!

I just received my Charge 3. I wasn't impressed with the sound -- the mid's were muffled and muted. I was all set to return it when I read about updating the firmware. After doing so I can't believe the difference in sound. The mids are clean yet the bass is still strong at the bottom. Amazing sound.

Christian Salcedo you need to download the JBL Connect app. Connect your phone to your JBL via usb cable, Choose your product in the app (JBL Charge 3), Choose "firmware update". It will take 10-15 minutes or so to update.

I got charge 3 and my friend has flip 4. I can tell you that flip 4 sounds really great , sometimes even better then charge 3. Mids and higs are definitely better. My only reason why I went with the charge 3 is its battery life, power bank and litle extra bass it has (not that it was very important to me)

I own the Charge 3 and what I do is I flip it a bit backwards so it rests on the corner of the bottom support and the "backdoor" port. Makes sounds brighter while keeping its very deep bass.

I dont know why everybody likes so much the bass...It sounds like the music is inside a box! To be honest I prefer to listen all the frequencies in equilibrium. I have a Charge 3, but I reduce the bass aways. You can do it holding pressed the Bluetooth and minus buttons for 10 seconds. Then, you can enjoy a better sound.

I was at T-Mobile a few days getting a new charger and of course the sales rep said will that be all? How about a speakers or headphones. I ended up getting the Charge 3. It's $6 a month extra on my phone bill. Viunveijari is right. It's not really clearer. The audio has a shrillness quality to it depending on what you're playing. If you're listening to high quality flac files off your device, there's a noticeable difference. The Charge 3 is much better, that of course until the Charge 4 comes out. You can't keep up with this stuff.

I sold both of my flip 3's to purchase the charge3. So glad I did. C3 has a better sound if you add a EQ with it. I tried the F4. Two C3's with the EQ you can't go wrong. I use them in my bike shop and people are really impress with the sound quality. But don't sleep on the F4 it's a heavy contender.

it's not the sound clarity that matters if you buy it to use it as a Bluetooth speaker... what do you generally do with a Bluetooth speaker? You use it to listen to your songs when you're outside with your friends or at home while doing other things; i don't think you need more sound clarity than power so it's better the charge 3 instead of the flip 4... if you want to listen to songs deeply just buy a good pair of headphones (like the m40x) or an hi-fi system. When I'm outside i want the best i can have in terms of sound power with the minimum of space occupied by the speaker in order to bring it with me... the charge 3 is not tiny but it's ok in my backpack for my pic nic, at the park or at the pool.

Well, as you said it all depends on the usage. Obviously a Bluetooth speaker is to listen on-the-go music but I think loud and clear is important factors as you emphasis. Actually, Flip 4 is louder than Charge 3 and it is for mid level clearer than Charge 3 (in a smaller package). Use case usages would be to listen to music at mid levels rather than at maximum levels for average consumers so I believe Flip 4 has a better balanced sound you don't need to PUSH in high levels to hear all the musical details (such as bass, trebles etc.) of your songs compared to Charge 3.

According to the JBL website, the Flip 4 will only connect to JBL Connect+ Speakers, and the Charge 3 has the original Connect. The Charge 3 may get an update to Connect+ in the future but I am not sure when.

Very nice and easy to do with the updates and app. Also can change the name of your speakers to customize and for identification at a party or gathering...make sure you get YOURS back and not a fake someone swapped.

I've been an audio engineer for over 35 years, and my focus has always been both clarity and "real" sound. I have mixed for TV studios and recording studios in both Dallas and Houston, TX. When it comes to the "best" speaker in this video, I have to recommend the Flip-4. Bass boost can be turned on the Flip-4 if you hold down both the bluetooth & minus buttons simultaneously; then both power and connect buttons light up in white (kzbin.info/www/bejne/noa3gaeLmZmFhtE). [NOTE: Using Bass Boost at high volume may break the speakers.] Flip-4 is clearer and with the Bass Boost turned on, is the better of the two.

I am high end freak and I have not been able to test each other so well, but it is good enough to say that the accessibility of the keys and USB charger has the edge on the Flip 4. When it comes to the quality of the sound the Flip 4 indeed more balanced, the high gives just that extra more what is missing with the Charge 3, you can describe it as dull. I also have the impression, but I come back to the fact that the Charge 3 distorts earlier at higher volumes. The full sound (bass) is more present than with the Flip 4, but on the whole the sound quality is better than that of the Charge 3. I also do not agree that the Charge 3 has a better sound quality overall. It is as if the Charge 3 speakers are more built in, while those of the Flip 4 are more on the surface. The sound is a bit fuller of the charge 3, but the lack of sparkling of the high tones does a lot of work.

On the Charge 3, is that a 1/8 line in jack? Or will it only connect via Bluetooth?

Gino Goossens, I’ve Flip 4 and it sounds much better than what we see on the KZbin. It produces great bass and treble in reality. If you’ve a small room, Flip 4 can fill it with ease

Gino Goossens, I haven’t heard the sound about these two but they’re likely going to perform better than Flip 4 because of their size. In my country, these two are expensive than Flip 4 and Charge 3

Barney The Dinosaur It's not that good. Just buy the JBL Flip 3 or 4. In addition to the Charge 3 I also own the Flip 3. I upgraded from an Anker sound core and haven't regretted it at all. You pay more but get something that's really a good product.

Hey there I had Anker sound core pro, but i sent it back , the sound is cool , it has NFC , VERY clear sound, but tbh i want more volume , it is low and weak bass, i hope it helps

I the flip 4 can be heard nicely in my sxs! It can also fit nicely in my cup holder as the charge 3 does not fit into the cup holders! The good thing about the charge 3 is if you put heavy duty Velcro to the bottom you can mount it anywhere you want

Thanks for a valuable comparison! They have each advantage/disadvantage. A very important factor for the decision is the size when one wants to bring the speaker out in the field.
