Except love and happiness. All the things that make life worth living, I feel for these people so much, its very sad when you think of it. I mean you get blessed with phenomenal talent, you are famous and beloved and maybe fabulously rich and all that but the other side of that is you cease to be free, you can't just walk around a mall, you have to keep going with insane scheduling, performing, traveling and mobbed by fans who maybe don't respect boundaries, and then it becomes difficult to have random connections with everyday people, you always have to be on your guard and on top of all the pressure and possible loneliness you can't react or in any way let the mask slip and simply have a bad mood day. Then there is the impossible demand to keep looking fabulous, especially with women, you can't go outside with bed hair just to toss out the garbage or you end up on some terrible magazine pointing out how jacked up you look, exhausting!!! And its all because you got talent, anyway, rant over.

I'm probably one of the few people who love this song who also loves the Dolly Parton original just as much. I don't think I could pick which one is my favorite, they're both awesome in different ways. Whitney's version has more dynamic range, more power, and is just more impressive in a lot of ways. But Dolly's original is so sweet and heartfelt and plaintive that it stands on its own. It's really great. This one is too close to call for me.

Whitney's version is great, but personally I prefer Dolly's - more genuine emotion considering it is not really a 'love' song, but a parting from a good friend and colleague :-) xxx

So many talented artists die way too early..... Even though they are famous and we love their talents, that's not to say that they don't or didn't have a gaping hole in their soul like many of us have. You spoke of trying to distance yourself from the world.... I believe that many of the artists that we have lost were just as confused and frustrated as most of us regular humans are about the human race. They couldn't understand how things were like they were either especially when there is so much beauty that us humans can absorb into our being instead of the negative and dark. No matter how much they sang about it and sang it TO us, most humans just turn their backs to the messages and walk the other way. Thanks for spreading the beauty of the world, JB!

In the movie 'Bodyguard', there is a male country singer in a local band doing a cover of the song, and the leads talk about how sad a song it is. And then the couple realise that there is something more between them. And the Whitney character starts dropping hint and Costner character says; we can't date because I can't protect you that way. I will lose sight of the mission and he will just see her. Listen to the you tube version Dolly telling how the song came about and her version. Dolly often says that Whitney just killed the song, but Dolly is happy being the writer and collecting all the writing royalties of the Whitney version.

Whitney Houston was like at the same level of greatness as Celine Dion. Such major talent in the both of them. It was so sad seeing her life spiral downward. Being married to Bobby Brown was what destroyed her career/life. It's even more sad how her daughter was found dead in the same manner. She never got over the loss of her mother Whitney. :(
