This performance was the perfect storm. A totally charming singer with an angelic voice. Wonderful orchestra and staging. And the perfect fit of the singer to the subject of the song. This aria is sung, many times, by a mature soprano. But the actual song is supposed to be a young girl telling her father about the boy she has met and that if she cannot be with him she wants to throw herself into the River Arno and drown. Your reaction to Amira is exactly like mine each time I hear her sing. I found her on KZbin about four years ago, have her CDs, and every time I hear her voice I try to keep my 73 year old manly demeanor intact.....I ALWAYS lose . She once said during an interview, when I think she was about 10, that she didn't understand why people cry when she sings....the child just didn't know the impact she has on our hearts. Again, when about 10, she was asked why she wanted to sing... and she said so that people could smile and applaud....such innocence...the dreams of a child ...and it still prevails to this day. Thank you for expressing your true feelings in front of the public, something that many of us have to do in private. Her voice, her demeanor and unspoiled sweetness will, I believe, follow her forever. Thank you for your honest reactions....you are an honest man.

Amira is a legend of our time. I have followed her progress for the last 3yrs or so since I saw her on YT on Holland's Got Talent. She was incredible even then, with her lower register already developed way beyond what a 9yr old would normally have. After she won, members of Andre Rieu's orchestra told him that he should hear this girl, she was incredibly talented. He invited her to sing at the outdoor concert he gives every year at Maastricht in South-eastern Netherlands. The vid you watched was about 6 months after she won HGT so she is about 9 1/2yrs old there. Andre Rieu gave her a masterclass before the concert which is also on Yt. Holland is very strict about the number of appearances in public a minor can make, so when Amira was a bit older she and her brother and mother moved to South Africa so she would have more opportunities there. Her father remained in Holland and joined them a few years later. Her mother is Afrikaan and her father is Dutch. She also donates a percentage of her income to build playgrounds for African children so they can 'be' children and have some happiness in their sometimes uncertain lives. She said that she feels like another person when she sings, and also loves wearing the dresses :) She is fabulous, she takes you on a journey, a very special skill which not many singers have. She doesn't just sing a song, she feels it, she lives it, and she expresses it to us through the power and purity of her voice, and the soul is so touched that we are forever changed by it in the most wonderful way. She has been likened to the great Maria Callas, and that is quite something. I've listed a few more links as well as her audition on HGT. The other links show a progression through her age, and some of the most memorable of her performances, though any of what she does is truly remarkable. The thing about classical music is that you actually have to listen to it - unlike the homogeneous cookie cutter sounds we hear and see so much of now, which rely heavily on the 'package' to distract from the lack of vocal ability. Opera and the classics often tell a story, and how well that story is told is down to the person who sings it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3XUhXWigLpneac - (2013) - 9 yrs - HGT Winner (The Netherlands) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGeZppd3gtJ2eq8 - (2015) - 10yrs - Christmas Concert (Canisius Church, Nijmegen) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnasnnaAjK6Sl80 - (2015) - 11yrs - Christmas - (Reykjavík, Iceland) kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJC6qp17n5p3jZo - (2016) - 12yrs - Classics are Great (South Africa) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZyUnWtqirxkpqs - (2017) - 13yrs - Concert (South Africa) kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZ_PXp17ndOZbK8 - (2017) - 13yrs - Christmas, (Utrecht, Netherlands) kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6KunatrYtd1eLc - (2018) - 14yrs - Classics are Great (Pretoria, South Africa) kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2bYn5StgNWsqdk - (2018) - 14yrs - Classics are Great (Pretoria, South Africa) The last one is from a Swedish movie and she sings in Swedish :)

André Rieu is a Dutch violinist who helds annually these outdoor concerts in his hometown. People travel all over the world to see them, mostly from Europe. They are also sent live in cinemas and I was just there to see the best of clips from past years because big events are cancelled for now. Rieu is famous for bringing out surprise performers, sometimes they're known like Jermaine Jackson or David Hasselhoff driving the KITT car through the stage, but mostly the guests are total strangers who happen to be the best singers you've ever heard.
