The Scorpions are infact Brittish and they had a hit in the 60s with a Fats Domino cover named Hello Josephine, that's the reason why Scorpions never used The in front of their name. But yeah Scorpions are German and were scoring hits throughout the 80s, I really like still loving you though.

The was wirtten in late sommer of 1989 after the Scorpions attended a rock festival in Moscow and they felt the first time, that Gorbatschows policy of Perestroika and Glasnost had a real impact on the life in the USSR. It was released on the new album in November 1990 and on Single in January 1991. Soon the song became the soundtrack of the reunification of Germany and the end of the cold war.

Felt compelled to cut-paste my comment from your lyric video: In the 1980s, largely in response to pressure from the U.S. and President Reagan, Gorbachov embarked on a program of "perestroika" (economic reform) and issued a decree of "glasnost" (openness). Those policies are now regarded as foreshadowing of the impendng fall of the Berlin wall, and the dismanteling of the Soviet Socialist empire. Winds of Change.

Unfortunately for us we now have communist Bernie Sanders running for president who wants to take the United States in the direction of the Soviet Union..
@Timo8.2.3 жыл бұрын
It was more about the economical problems that Soviet Union was going through than Reagan or US pressure. USA had pressured Soviet Union since the start of Cold War. Soviet Union really didn’t care what America thought. The war in Afghanistan basically bankrupted Soviet Union so Gorbachev wanted to get the economy going with perestroika. Glasnost was a response for mounting dissatisfaction from the people and different Soviet states.

The Fall of the Berlin Wall. East Germany was under the control of the Marxist (communism) U.S.S.R. The falling of the wall ushered in FREEDOM. I was plenty old enough to know and understand THEN, the why of what happened that lead to this song being written. Yes, yes, I am again over a year late in commenting. This song is ALL about the end of Communism in the U.S.S.R. The U.S.S.R no longer exists, it is back to being Russia. At this point, it's moot what that Country is called. They tried, and succeeded in little ways, to be more Free. It didn't last long, they started sinking right back into that pit...enter Vlad Putin, KGB operative. Anyway, it was an amazing time to live. Decades later, the world as a whole, is under the very real, 'knocking at your door' close, end game - Marxism is HERE. Once again, in my life time, I can honestly say.. "What a time to be alive"!.

I just learned this song about 3 weeks ago, (the rhythm guitar part). My fiance lives in Ukraine. I had heard this song a 100 times but never really listened to the words or thought about it. I mostly listen to the sounds. Anyway, so when I was learning the words to sing it, it occurred to me, this HAS to be about the fall of the Berlin Wall. Sure enough, I looked it up and that is what its is about. I thought about that speech that President Reagan made at the Brandenburg gate.. "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." And I got very emotional. It meant something to me. I didn't even realize how the song had become an anthem throughout Eastern Europe for freedom, especially economic freedom, freedom from the chains of socialism. I guess that is why my fiance Elena likes it so much. I always liked it but now is one of my favorite songs.

The message of this incredible song is perhaps more relevant in 2022 than it was in 1989. It's a song that spans generations. The world is falling apart before our very eyes, not just politically, socially. Our natural environment, our wildlife, our relationship with animals needs to change. Since I turned 40 years old I think deeply about so many things. Time makes us think deeply, we need to change the world.
