@@Weirdkauz The actors had other commitments. Fair play, the series ended and they looked for other work, but did come back for the movie. Just couldn't commit to more than that, so Whedon used it to up the stakes narratively, shaking people up with a few main character deaths that you're not sure if they'll actually make it or it all goes "Rogue One" on us. But, yeah, I read that it was to do with the actors and contracts and long-term commitments. If there'd have been a Serenity 2, Wash wouldn't have been back - the actor had other work - so might as well put a proper ending on it, and use that fact narratively.

My kids bought me the DVD series for Christmas many years ago, Love it. Extremely. Grew up on Robert Heinlein Science fiction, still rereading & growing, since I was 10 yrs old in 1952. My wife bought a Christmas present a few years back, a simple brown Tee shirt, firefly souvenir, mail order from a magazine, did not inspect, just wrapped it, and it was my favorite surprise that Christmas, and her minor regret, as she did not know the shirt had a FF quote on the back - would not have bought The Shirt if she . had seen "I aim to misbehave." Right up my alley. I believe you just do what's right, might even require a bit Misbehavior. The shirt is getting old, well-worn, and it describes my life's philosophy. I sometimes wonder what today's generation would be like if Firefly had a better run and the kids might learn principles as they were entertained.
