Hi JB, shame about the blight, i bike ride to my plot through our local park weekly (weather permitting). If not, i walk, too. Its lovely to get fresh air & exercise, so good for our souls. Your beetroot & pepper's looking really good. Great vudeo update. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

The white beetroot is gorgeous roasted, really sweet. As already mentioned, beetroot & orange chutney is heavenly with a really good cheddar. Look no further than the bbc good food recipe.

Lovely vid JB. I grew the Piquante peppers this year to do the same thing, after you recommended CC recipe, but like you only have a few. I trialled using just regular sweet peppers in the same pickling solution and it works an absolute treat, they are gorgeous! In fact I may reduce the sugar just slightly as they are very sweet- being sweet peppers! I'll probably do a mixed jar now with the piquante chillies, Champion and sweet red peppers.

Hi JB, I lost all my outdoor Roma tomatoes too. My fault, planted too many and too close together a lesson learnt for next year.

Hey JB Lotsa pepper talking and showing today. You have some really nice ones there. The red California Wonder have dark patches due to the anthocyanins. I do know the the California Wonder esp the red ones and also the pale yellow banana peppers will show blueish purple streaks when they make the anthocyanins. Most other peppers do not have much if any at all.

Good to see you JB and hope next season is a brighter one for you. I have clay soil & have tried no dig by topping my beds with mushroom compost but it’s still rock hard, so over winter I’m going to dig it in. So partial no dig. Also have clubroot so trying some resistant seed next year. My neighbours have bindweed & I’ve done so much to clear my plot so will prob have to use some glyphosate! Needs must. Can I ask for beginner chili variety recommendations? My usual go to are Basket of Fire / Hot Wax / Cayenne and Curry. Was looking for a Smokey one I can dry and also a fruity one. Ta 🎉

I went from the way you think about Beetroot to it being one of my main crops. My favourite is to boil them gently in their skins (which come off easily after cooking) and serve with potatoes, slices of nice mild onions (Radar), some of your tomatoes and smoked mackerel (from a packet) with a drizzle of olive oil and a proper sprinkle of salt. Delicious .

Couple of days ago, I got so scared of the turn of weather and potential blight (first year allotment and no polytunnel yet). I harvested all my tomatoes green :( Going to pickle them tonight and hope for the best :) Impressive chillies :) Mine didn't grow more than a foot and no fruit, so will overwinter them :)

The poly tunnels on my allotment site get wrecked every year by the wether. There’s one bloke though who positioned his in I fairly sheltered spot and then built foundations and reinforcements for it and he has no issues. I’m lucky, got a pretty big greenhouse and it’s solid. So far so good!… he says! Keep the videos coming dude. You’re my chilli guru 🌶️

Thank you it was a mission to rebuild myself! Very pleased with it. The damage is from foxes unfortunately but I have a chicken wire fence which deters them now. There's a whole playlist of the build if you're interested! kzbin.info/aero/PLN4LsN_65N2Zo0n_BBn6cI-7s6kLcf9Kb&si=NC_AsgiQWRV1yEwY

I find the California Wonder is better as a green pepper, but I'm also impatient, and tend to pick things early, lol. Have you ever tried eating the beet greens? They're really nice cooked (just wilted) up with onion and garlic.

Jheez those are some whopping harvests you've had. I gotta get me a polytunnel for next year. And that hot bin? Gonna hunt around your past videos to find out about that.
@JBNat3 ай бұрын
The hotbin has been very interesting! I inherited both the polytunnel and the hotbin from my good friend Steve from Green Side Up when he sadly passed away last year. Hotbin is a lot of work and a very costly investment. I'm yet to crack it open properly and find out how good the compost is though.

A culinary match. The trick for beetroot is to pair it with thyme. So, new gardeners, make sure you grow both. Add chickpeas, and you're laughing. Not sure we can grow chickpeas here in UK.

@JBNat3 ай бұрын
@@LisaEgan-o2h hiya, this was inherited from my dear friend Steve from Green Side Up. They're from the Hotbin Company and they're serious pieces of kit. When I empty this one I'll work on getting the ground a little more level and possibly cover it too.
