Maybe for every introvert and highly sensitive person out there: I have realised (just as Jason said) you‘re not missing out on anything as long as you‘re spending your time doing what really speaks to your soul. If you do what feels authentic and exciting to you, there‘s absolutely no reason to feel guilty or triggered ‚by having no social life‘. You can have a few close friends, see them from time to time and spend all the rest of your days reading or drawing or whatever you love. Don‘t feel like you have to match into society‘s notion of a ‚fulfilling and good life‘. You‘re only hurting yourself by neglecting your actual needs and desires. Especially if you‘re more sensitive than the average person and going out leads to exhaustion. Have the courage to walk your own path!! There‘s nothing more rewarding.❣️

I’m 42 and life has changed so much of course. In my 20s, I loved to party; loved going to the clubs. Slowed down towards the end of my 20s. Saw my good friends once on awhile. Didn’t really care to make new ones. In my 30s, It was more of what I wanted to do with my life and where I wanted to go and when I was going to get married. Now that I’m in my 40s, socializing is very rare. Family and a kid has taken over my life. It’s very rewarding though. Enjoy being young because you’ll never get that time back but also do things that are fulfilling because you’ll also never get the time back. You boys are doing amazing. Keep it up.

There is always a tradeoff between hanging out with friends and getting work done. I am in my 30s working on my dissertation like Jason. I find myself growing apart from friends. Many of my friends are married with kids. Sometimes, I feel like we don't share common interests as we used to. The friendship between John and Jason is indeed very precious. =] Happy New Year!

A current friend of mine said, "You can grow out of those friendships you had in your 20's and mourn the loss but it doesn't make you any less friends." which is true. My core high school friends, most of them are married with kids, I share very little in common with them now that we are in our 40's. I cried after a gathering with them because I had SO little in common it hurt on a very deep level. I still talk with them every once and a while but you'll find friends as you grow into your late 30s who share more in common with where you are in life.

The main thing to remember about social media is that people are usually share only the most prestigious ten percent of their lives. If you knew about the other ninety percent as well, you would not be so envious. Another thing to think about is: You can choose not to have a Facebook or Twitter or Instagram account. Some people think that kind of stuff is a complete waste of time. You could be old fashioned and call people on the phone to ask about that party they went to that you opted out of.

I was never a sociable person to begin with, I find it hard to connect with EVERYONE, and it feels really good to connect with someone immediately because I know it is a genuine connection. I think we can all agree that we are more introverted than ever because of the pandemic. I am an undergraduate student in my penultimate year now, sometimes I see my friends meeting up with other friends on Instagram and I just feel bad for myself. But with a tighter, quality-over-quantity social circle, I am able to focus on myself; Social life imo is a waste of time if it is done so unwillingly, or it is coming from a place of fear (fear of looking like someone who doesn't have a social life/friends) also, I LOVE you guys. You guys are incredibly wise and y'all really have good personalities, hope to be able to meet y'all one day in NYC or if y'all ever come to Singapore! :)

I'm one of those people who spent years and years "finding themselves"... I've taken enough to college to get my doctorate with no degree as of yet 😅 I always had a hard time finishing something because I felt as though once I get this degree that's it. My future is set in stone. It took me a long time to figure out that, I can do this "for now" and pick up something later and do that too. I got my massage therapist license in my mid thirties and now I'm working on getting my bachelor's in nursing. I also had a bad habit of not doing something unless I could be great at it, but I've learned to let that go too. I'll take dancing classes for a few months at a time and if life gets busy, I'll stop and come back 6 months later having forgotten half of it - but still having fun. Experiences, moments, learning, laughing, etc. I respect those who can really commit to one particular passion in life, but that's not for everyone.

As someone who grew up with social anxiety and self-validation issues, I never enjoyed partying or had the courage to hang out with bunch people that i barely know. Plus, i don’t drink. Therefore, I never had those fun college life, left alone dates and relationship. While i was busy picking up the pieces of myself, my other half of the mind was torn to think that i missed out huge part of so called “life experiences”. “Why didn’t I brave enough to get out there and be more social？”, which made me even more anxious. Recently, i graduated with my doctoral degree in physical therapy (how can someone with social anxiety can be clinician? Lol, magic). I started to have more time to reflect on myself. I started to value more on what i have and consider what i don’t t have as room of improvement. I realized i have so many good friends who always there for me. I have a supportive mom who trust her daughter regardlessly. I completed grad school (grad school was a bitch). I am building a better relationship with myself. I have a better and stronger version of myself!!!!!! I just stepped into the dating game as a 27 yrs old and had no luck yet (sad face here lol), but a big step for someone with social anxiety. I still aware of the social clock ticking around me. But i started to care less. No one gonna live the life for me. So i should just be responsible for myself, instead of fitting into the social standard. Still working on making a better version of myself. I don’t remember when was my last time writing so much. this was very relatable. i had like 40 "friends" in college and now in my mid 20s i have 4 - and i wouldn't want it any other way! i think as you get older and get to know yourself and your priorities better, you become more selective with how you spend your energy and who you spend your energy on. and in the process, you realize that you'd rather cultivate strong friendships with a select few people you have a special connection with rather than superficial relationships with a bunch of people you only know by circumstance. #adulting 👏 as always thanks for sharing J Bros and im excited to see the success that 2021 will bring you! ✨

As embarrassing as it is I'm almost 30 and have never been in a relationship. I think it has stemmed from many things growing up. Having a strict household, a judge for a dad. Being a twin and feeling like I couldn't do anything without her. I'm also an introvert so I've been accustom to doing things solo. When you're use to doing things solo it becomes normal and you sometimes think it's meant to stay that way. I hope I'm wrong tho. Love you guys 🙏🏾

The last 4 minutes of this video was well said in such a sophisticated manner. As you two are talking I can't help but think "wow, how are these two handsome men still single? Especially seeing how well put together you two are." But then John makes a good point "we're not trying to pigeonhole ourselves into this constructed societal timeline." And for me that statement made me feel good about myself and where I stand in my life. I'm the same age as John, so sometimes I can't help but feel a certain way because I haven't achieve my PharmD goals just yet (in the process btw) and be single. I slowly start to become envious of my college friends that are moving foward in their lives both career and relationship wise. After watching the rest of the video I realized that they are right. That those things shouldn't define me. I am more than just a degree and I have other interests/passions that I want to tackle at the same time. Part of me doesn't comment on youtube videos, especially if they're Korean. It's a weird Korean American thing that I couldn't explain. This one, in particular, gave me more to say. ^^ Went from Undergrad Physiology/Chemistry, to all types of marketing, to sales, to EMT, to currently teaching English in South Korea. I can feel myself changing in ways that I don't envision for myself in the future, and I find that that's a good way to evaluate any confusion or indecision I feel about "what's next." Feeling like it's time for something else, and onto the next. This isn't it. If you're reading this, I hope this can be of some help; particularly if you're younger, or if you're older. Things happen when they do. Sometimes they take longer than you think, and at the same time, shorter than you thought. It's good to be in the details of planning, but when you find yourself getting negative about the world, zoom out and think big picture. It's not about the career, the money, the prize, or prestige. This is about you. The majority of a movie is the middle, the journey, and it gives the beginning and the ending context. The journey is what you remember -- because it changes you.

I'm in my mid 20's, living and working remotely in NYC, and my career is still at the "analyst level" since graduating more than 4 years ago. I would have liked to be at 6 figures at this point, but it is not the case. I'd like to figure out the next step in my career. Also, I'd like to make more friends. It doesn't always feel great when other people are doing so much better, have more money, friends, going out, partying, concerts, life experiences, luck etc. But, I have myself and will continue carrying on :)

Personally, this particular video really resonated with me. Over the course of the last two years after completing my Master degree in education and even now teaching full time. I'm finding that even though I love my job, there still a sense of incompleteness I feel in my life. Whilst I am actually quite happy, I've come to the same conclusion that although teaching is the passion of my life, it doesn't define me. This past year has been an incredible journey of exploring my other hobbies and interest that feed my creative hunger(getting out of my comfort zone = talking to more adults and not children hahah). I'm weird about my social life. I don't enjoy spending time with people that I don't feel I can learn from. All of the friends that I keep close to me are people that are better than me in one aspect or another and I hope to better myself by keeping their company. I'm definitely more introverted. Our priorities shifted over time. I hardly socialising. Not that i don't have friends. I do have a small circle of friends but we only meet up few times a year over lunch/dinner or go camping. Past few years, i would spend my weekend hanging out with my friends but now as i grew older (30 🤣), I spend it with my parents and siblings. Career wise... It's still a long way to go.. There's so many things to explore and learn. My career path are full of ups and down mentally and physically. My first job was not relatable with what i studied. But it was truly an eye opener. Work for a couple of years there and I became a workaholic. Spent most of my time at work even during weekends and it affected my health so i decided to take a break. Resigned, helped up with my parents' cafe while pursuing my MS degree. Now I'm back in the industry, doing something I'm passionate with and loving my new role. 2 years and still counting. I totally agree that everyone has their own timeline. Be at your own comfortable pace. Don't compare yours with others. You are you ✌️. Happy New Year guys 🎉🎊!

I am currently set and stone to get my MS in Electrical Engineering this Fall 2021. I'm stuck at this roadblock in my life where I can either choose to go PhD, work locally, or join the Air Force. Sometimes I do feel like I FOMO seeing colleagues partying, traveling, or raising a family.. sometimes I think life can be draining being lonely and studying, but after seeing this, I think it's just trying to do whatever simple things make me happy. I do agree (after some life changing events) that you should always focus on doing what you love and what makes you happy. Because I’ve had a job that I devoted my life to and it honestly was terrible for my health to be in an environment where my bosses only cared about the bottom line (I was an RA). So for the first time I had the desire to quit a job that was making me miserable and it really showed me how important going to work in a place that I love is to me. Also happy new year!! Hey J Bro, just subscribed this channel yesterday and found it really informative for me. I am a 26 Chinese student in Tasmania, Australia and have spent my past 2 years backpacking in Australia to explore and one year working my butt off to get a residency here. Holding a bachelor’s degree of geospatial engineering, I didn’t do much I my field or I would say it’s not field coz I chose it when I was not mentally mature at all and I lost my appetite for it after graduation. While I was backpacking and studying in Australia, I did bar job or barista job to stay afloat. I did feel anxious on the way to get residency while I couldn’t move forward in what I perceive as a career. It stays mysterious to me and I work as a disability support worker now, which is another inconsistent part of my career pathway. There are a few things that I can relate to while watching the video, such as working out and nutrition. Thanks to your video contents coz it allowed me to read your thoughts and think about my path for the next 4 years. Keep it up and I love you guys. Let me know if you are coming to Tasmania, and we can have some talks over about Australian new immigrants and American Asians.

Im from nyc but left it for general surgery residency. I didnt have a crazy party social life but (somehow) had some form of social life when I look back. I agree with your sentiment on finding fulfillment. It’s this idea of lifelong learning- a buzzword that I threw around but only recently started to understand and embrace. I'm naturally an introvert, but do value spending time with friends (not huge groups at once). Kind of glad I'm not too into social media because I don't have this urge to follow what others do. I don't think I missed on a lot of stuff. I do sometimes think that I could've explored and tried more things in my 20's. After grad school, I was so busy working towards licensure. Then once I got licensed, I was focused on opening my own practice which I did in 2020. It's expanding now and thinking of leaving my day job later. I have a lot to balance. Dating has been a challenge, but I also see and hear others who were in relationships in their 20's separating in their late 20's or early 30's. Was never into partying and clubbing which I'm ok with. I have dated people in their 30's who still want to live like their college days. :( So all in all, my career is stable, but I also want to do something else on the side. I have other passions. I enjoy your videos a lot! Keep it up!

No second channel after party? boo. I started working in industry after undergrad, and honestly I'm glad I didn't pursue more in academia right then. Going head first into industry allowed me to move around the US comfortably, make my 'I want to make $X annual salary' goal by the time I was 26 (in retrospect maybe I just set the bar too low lmfao), and subsequently to travel and have more fun and exciting experiences outside of the grind. I'm happy with how things seem to fall into place when I just set my mind to something. PS I would like to request a return to Stone Street for a future bro date at Adrienne's Pizzabar. THANKS 😊

When I was younger I was always out and social but as I've aged I know the value of close friends and quality time spent with those in my circle. I'm still social, during a normal year, but I chose to use my valuable free time (I'm a professional student it seems) with quality time and not just random social engagements. Bars are great, random parties are great for quantities of people, but you get to a certain point in life, kind of where you guys are now, where quality time and memories are better than the big social scene.

I’m in a mix between socializing more to working more on my career/school and what fulfills me more often. Not forcing myself to socialize because I see other people on Instagram or because of FOMO. I think 2020 showed me how not social I was with people out of fear of being rejected and not well liked. I think in the coming year I’m gonna branch more into being a social butterfly while being more productive with my passion. Yeah love this, friendship is all about quality over quantity! I’m an introvert and I’d rather have a deeper conversation than attempt to small talk (I’m so bad at it anyway lol!) with a whole bunch of people. It also takes more work to keep a social life in your 30’s, as apart from work, the places you naturally run into friends becomes less as you get more time poor, your peers get married and start having kids, and you all tend to be a bit further apart. I started making it my habit to have coffee or breakfast with a friend at least once a week and it has kept things easy and conversations real 👌

2020 made me realize I was focusing too much on me, myself and I (job, networking, serious stuff) and did too little to build and strengthen my relationships with the people around me. The topic on this vlog is definitely really valuable for those of us who are in the same situation of rushing towards life because of fear of not always doing enough coupled with the pressure to make more money or start a family. We shouldn't compare ourselves to other people's timeline. As long as we're striving to improve and be a better version of ourselves whether we can see the results yet or not, we should be happy cause our time will surely come in the future when we will look back. It's best to look back with a sense of fulfillment that we enjoyed the process of making ourselves a better person and not because of pressure from society. Hope you guys make more of these contents. Freesia Park's channel recently showed up on my feed so I think that led to this video popping up as well. Definitely appreciate this conversation. I'm mixed but first generation Asian American on my mother's side and definitely felt the pressure from her to go to school in the medical field which led to me feeling lost in college and dropping out. Then I also felt the pressure in my mid twenties to potentially marry my partner at the time and in hindsight we were completely incompatible. Now I'm twenty-eight, single, and back at a university to study something I'm actually passionate about. I can't even imagine how unhappy I would be if I just followed what others wanted me to do. I think not following society's timeline and having an untraditional path allows me to be my most authentic self and actually live to enjoy life instead of filling out check boxes. Aside from career, the idea not settling for the sake of conforming also helped me learn what I value most in people whether that be friendships or relationships. There is definitely a sweet pot when it comes to balancing goals and finding your own ebb and flow to life.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. It makes me (and probably lots of the viewers) feel like we are not alone in this adulting journey. I've been working in hospitality for almost 10 years, since I was 18, dropped out from college. I'm at the managing position that I was thriving for but after the pandemic, I'm burnt out and I'm lost. I helped the company passed through the difficult time but I suddendly felt empty looking back on my life. I'm just trying to do more of what really fulfills me and take time for myself. What you said toward the end of the video somehow resonates with my current situation. That feeling when you know that someone out there experienced the same situation is really heart warming. Especially how you called out the issues and the inportant questions of our generation is very calm. Thank you for making these videos. Wish all your projects will be super successful!

I'm usually saying that I'm just selective when it comes to socializing but still too much socializing wears me out. After a night out, I need a week alone and the friends that I care about now know it. Like many people said if reading a book makes you happy do that, but I do feel its important to here and there socialize, make some interactions, keep in touch just to keep yourself on your toes, to venture out of your comfort zone, you'll eventually fall into the place you are comfortable in and your friends will get to know how you 'operate' . As you get older the pressure dies down, you care about the people around you who you give your time and energy to and everyones priorities are different. You realize you don't wanna hang with people just for the sake of hanging.

I think a lot about my social life and what does it mean to have a social life, to begin with. I realized that you could be social in your own way and with your own terms and conditions set up for yourself. I no longer feel the pressure to have lots of friends or go out because everybody else is doing so. I like how you two kept comparing socializing with fulfillment, which you can also find in other things or even within yourself. This is actually the purpose of socializing in my perspective; it is like learning new things from other people and realizing that we all are the same in many different ways. FOMO is real, especially fueled by social media posts. But 2020, with its long term isolation phase, has taught me that you do whatever makes you happy, having social life or not. I don't think I am anywhere near where I want to be.. but I know that this year (even with Covid) I was closer to my goal than last year and I get the feeling that next year will be even better. This year was an important year for me because I had time to reflect on myself and in a span of last 3 months, I experienced so much change which made me realize my weakness and my strengths and what kind of person I want to become. "인생은 '만약' 을 걱정하고 거부 당할 것을 두려워하기에는 너무 짧다" I hope 2021 will bring all of us closer to the person we want to become. Happy New Year!
