Honestly, the work grind especially in medical careers is really tough on personal relationships. I agree with what you say about part of being it being personality too. Currently, going through second year of medical school and lost some relationships due to getting too busy and distance. Still trying to figure out how to balance life. Hoping you also find yours throughout the rest of residency.

@@silverchairdont9409 That's some selfish BS! Shaming people for not being "true friends" if they're not unconditionally there for you for eternity without you giving anything back. Friendships and relationships are like plants. They require to be watered. Of course they can survive without water for SOME period of time. But if that time period becomes too long they'll die out. And if those friends leave because YOU refused to invest for a LONG period of time, then it's not because THEY weren't true friends. It's because YOU were actually not a true friend and they just left as a consequence of YOU leaving that friendship first!
@silverchairdont94094 жыл бұрын
@@SermonsSubtitled I am not shaming people for not being there for you for eternity. I was specifically talking about the friendship during going through the medical school. I work in the medical fields. I know a lot of people went through nursing, medical schools. I understand the amount of pressure and the stress. One of my friend had to get a surgery due to the serious infection caused by the stress. It was painful to watching her going through all that. A lot of them had to work full time during the weekend as well. So I would totally understand that their priorities are definitely not nourishing relationships at that time.

Felt strangely stalkerish to watch someone across the world do their thing but at the same time...it was motivating to see someone living to their fullest and enjoying the flow. Yes life is short... but clearly some have reached their ikigai "key to happiness" by just being themselves and enjoying the things they love doing. I hope to do the same this year.

Hey, John thanks for sharing your thoughts. 😊 As Asians it's embedded in us that hard work is the only way to go. For me, I learned it the hard way I overworked myself because I thought I was young, invincible and other things can wait. Plus I wasn't eating for nourishment, I was just eating to survive and to work. Last January I had undergone surgery and had my swollen gallbladder removed. And I'm just 23! It changed my perspective, I left my job and now I'm using this time to regain my relationship with myself which I took for granted. The best decision I ever made! 😊

On those day I didn’t do any work or school related activity because I couldn’t focus, and I wasn’t let to so. We all need some time off every once in a while, its very important to give a break from your daily routine at least 2/3days, I know we all got bills, but that won’t kill one. Mine has either been school or work off not both on the same days, because I am always busy on weekends at work and my days off are on school day🤷🏽♀️. People around me constantly tell me I'm killing myself for this job. I totally get where you're coming from in regards to cultural factors and how one is raised. My parents worked 3 jobs to support me and my siblings. It's only natural that I mirror the same work ethic. I find validation in the positive outcomes of my patients. I definitely relate to this - just finishing up my psychology registration and it's been a long road. Sometimes it feels like I'm in a constant cycle of always working towards the next stage and then another year has passed and all I've really done is work and study. But I do think that if you're fulfilled by what you do, it's fun (if sometimes stressful) and you don't look back and regret the time you spent doing what you're doing, there's no right or wrong way to do life. Yes, I've missed out on 'normal' things that other people have done, but I'm genuinely proud of how far I've come and how hard I've worked, and feel like I'm actually doing something worthwhile with my life. Having a sense if purpose is a gift, and I'd personally rather have that over a lot of other things that people prioritise.

I really appreciate you sharing your insight on the "grind" mentality. I'm also ponder about balance. I could spend few extra days of studying to get that A or B in dental school but I don't even want to specialize, so I can save those extra days for family, etc for a lower grade. I can't forget one of the reason I chose dentistry is for that work life balance, then again I would watch Korean medical vlogs and see students study all night long as my motivation/excuse to put in another few extra of hours towards my studies. It's always that ambition and motivation to do more. Keep up the amazing job and stay healthy!

The work life balance is not a joke. People often ask me how I find time to do everything that I’m doing. They’re my motivation and I’m happy with what I’m doing even sometimes I feel like I have no energy to even walk to the parking lot after long hours of work. Also people that I work with are amazing human being, we care about our patients as our family and we care about each other and helping each other with our work load. I’m blessed to be surrounded by good people, family and friends. Enjoy good food is a remedy for me and I love grocery shopping and cooking. I see y’alls videos and get energized because if somebody else can do it there’s no excuse I can’t. Thank you for sharing and I can relate a lot on not spending time with loved ones. I live in a different State and work everyday/all day long so I don’t get much time to chat,text or FaceTime with them. It’s hard but look at it this way “All the sacrifices you make now you won’t have to do later when you already have a family of your own.” That is what I tell myself and work even harder to make sure all my student loans and debt is paid off. I want to make sure my future Husband, Children, My siblings, nephews, nieces etc. are always going to have me to help them in their time of need. I know it’s a long time from now but you have to get a head start. As of now I help them and I’m the 2nd youngest in my family but they all call me for help. I don’t charge them back or anything, even my little sister (3 years younger) calls me for help and I deliver. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I hope you have an amazing week.

Losing someone is never easy but it really puts things into perspective on what’s important in life and that work isn’t everything. I’ve def realized that time spent relaxing or with family is important and to cherish those moments because nothing is guaranteed. Being 28 the grind is def nonstop trying to build your life but I have to sit back and remember all those who supported me and I am reminded that work and a career isn’t everything.

I can totally relate to when you said that being raised by immigrants parents motivates you to work hard . Honestly I thought I was the only one with this kind of crazy work schedule . It's good to be busy doing what you love though. Nothing beats hardwork. Goodluck with everything.

not to mention about you being like a dream, I agreed with your idea that there's more to life than just work.

Your realization about life and work hits hard really. I can relate about how work makes things sort of irrelevant. I think we have to slow down a bit. Breathe. KPOP more. LOL.

I added you to my secret playlist named 'husband' where I collect how I want to feel around him and how much I admire him - that visualization gives me the energy to keep working on my own goals until I meet him

That scene in the car hit me so hard when you said what about life.... because you are just working so hard. My grandpa had the same mentality, he worked and worked and worked. He had three different jobs at one point in his 60's; he was in the Air National Guard full time, he worked as a special education teacher at an intermediate school part time, and he also worked at Hertz Rental Car company part time. Unfortunately he didn't get to travel the world with my grandma as he promised because he passed away at 68 years old from a long battle with two different types of cancer. Take the time you need to spend with your loved ones... :) you deserve it & so do they!
