@jbstatistics 0:25 It's still something that confuses me greatly. But isn't it wrong to say that 'there is a 95% chance' that mu lies in the interval?
@jbstatistics5 жыл бұрын
I have a more complete discussion of the interpretation of the interval in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIqzZ5qZYpKmfbM. In repeated sampling, if all assumptions are met, then 95% of 95% confidence intervals would capture the true value of the parameter. Some people make a big deal of saying "we can't say that there is a 95% chance that the interval captures..." Although it's true that we can't say that, I think people make FAR too much of that notion and it simply confuses people. In the millisecond before your sample is drawn, the probability is 0.95 that the resulting interval will capture the true value of the parameter. In the millisecond after, the probability it captured the parameter is either 0 or 1, but we're 95% sure it's 1. That's a distinction that I really don't care about, at all, but some people seem to think it's the most important thing about the interval :)

I have one question sir, at 5:30 timeline "The pole is believed to be accurate to within 0.03, 19 times oyt of 20" - what does is means "accurate to within 0.03" means?
@jbstatistics8 жыл бұрын
+Fuad Khan Like I say around 4:50, it means that we can be 95% confident that the sample proportion lies within 0.03 of the true value of p.

I do not understand why you don't use a z score times .03 when you calculate the confidence interval for the proportion? Help?
@jbstatistics8 жыл бұрын
This is a "big picture" video, where I avoid going into the underlying calculations. The 0.03, as given, already includes the appropriate value of z. (0.03 is the margin of error, which is the appropriate z value times the standard error.)
@janefernandez743210 жыл бұрын
Where did the .03 come from? Can you please elaborate

Why don't they specify sample size while specifying confidence interval.
@jbstatistics6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you are asking. The sample size doesn't have anything to do with the confidence *level*. For a given confidence level, the sample size will come into play when calculating the interval. All else being equal, larger sample sizes lead to narrower intervals.
@GoodDeedsLeadTo2 жыл бұрын
95% is the confidence level and .03 is the confidence interval? Samples Confidence level of 95% for the statistic p hat to be within 0.03 of the parameter p?
