Our local Sears (San Bruno, California), which I worked at for 15 years (1995-2010) just started its closing sale. This particular store, opened in 1971, has been on a steady decline for the last few years. Tons of empty space, not enough stock to fill the floor, no customer service due to being understaffed. When I worked there, we had about 600 employees. Each individual department had its own team of 15-20 sales people, and another team of 10 or so stock people. Now, each department has ONE saleperson/cashier at any given time, and ONE stockperson per salesfloor. I believe the store currently has around 100 total employees. It was only a matter of time before the end came.

Great video and sad, powerful video. It's sad to see another great retailer in decline. Like this store around just a little longer.than I've been around (born December 31, 1965.) You did this perfect, no narrative needed It looks like the Garden state plaza, paramus Penneys, around over 60 years, shut last year. So.evsay mall owners wanted something new in the space. But the store was busy (and had the shortest entrance escalator in the country.)

I'm an associate at Penney's in Bluefield, WV. Our store is doing alright, but it could be doing a lot better. And seeing this poor store in the shape it was in this video and watching how sad and desolate everything looked makes me fear greatly that this might happen to our store. Growing up as a child, JCPenney was always the most iconic retailer. My parents loved it, my grandparents loved it, and all my friends shopped there. I always felt like a million bucks walking out of Penney's with a new shirt for school. If someone mentioned Penney's, you always heard such positive things about the customer service, what quality finds you can stumble upon for such reasonable prices, and how classic the culture altogether was. And even though I have great hopes for our store in Bluefield, losing it would be such a depressing time, let alone all of the hundreds of others that have been closing left and right. So sad.
