Definitely looks like a challenge Andy. I think you have the right idea by cradling the cylinder with the gantry crane. At least you can support both ends going back in and adjust the height angles separately to get that bottom pin back in.

When I had to remove the main boom cylinder on my Massey digger,loader alone ,I used a piece of wet timber underneath it when pulling out ang replacing the cylinder. It slid easily and I did the job alone. (no one is ever about when you need them !!). I was pleased to see both tines on the fork lift sharing the load since the tip of one tine snapped. There is a bridge bar with a central hook which clamps to the tines available .

Hi Andy I smile when I read how many people think that’s the new JCB. I drive one daily loading a feeder wagon with 16500 hours on it.I see the rear pivot point on the boom hasn’t been welded ours had the bushing holders break away from the boom after a hard life. Check for wear before you fit the new pin and bushings in the ram as a tight ram and excess sideways movement in the boom isn’t great as I am sure you know. I am not a keyboard mechanic

Andy i have been watching your video's for years, if my back wasn't bad after 3 surgery's i would be knocking at your door for a job. Love working on things and figuring out what makes it tick, plus you explain things. Love your ability to handle about anything and the way you and the rest of family do what it takes to make the farm life true and easier. Love your video's. I know jarred don't like to be on film other than burnouts or pulling trucks out of the trees, by the way any updates on that project yet. Hi Andy if you had a slipper over the fork you could reach in with the fork to place cylinder in . Lift the boom up and rest it 9n the gantry giving access under boom

Nice job on that cylinder boys. That's a little bit of a bear I've done that job on ours. I hope you get your parts and timely fashion, our JCB has been in the shop since I would say the end of December early January… Waiting on a couple pressure transducer's and a park brake switch which that actually showed up. On top of that I've got computer issues with it, JCB was out with their software the other day but they haven't gotten anywhere with it either. Have a good rest of your Sunday man hopefully you guys do something fun out in all that nice fresh snow before this week and it's all going to mail and turn everything into a sloppy muddy mess lol. This repair is clearly in the " mongeral " category ! Grease lines etc on the newer machine will get a critical checkover no doubt . Jerods job on the w9 not a lot of fun either .

Next Harbor Freight trip pick up a couple of their cheep plastic white cutting boards, they make real nice sliders to put between heavy steel parts when trying to slide/wiggle them into tight places. would make a beg difference trying to slide that cylinder into the JCB

Hi lift boom up put 12 foot box section between chassis, and under side of boom , lot easier to get ram in and out , I use hiab to swing cylinder , watch the side window !

Not a slow day or moment in Andy's shop, you get one thing in and fix it and you have the next project sitting outside ready to be brought in to get worked on in the meantime Andy has another project sitting outside waiting to get worked on by either Jared or the boys Can't imagine the cost of parts that go through your shop Andy and how much you save by working on it yourself and fixing it vs taking it to town and have a dealer fix it for you. Alot of knowledge in your shop and don't let it go and in the meantime Andy is bringing in new knowledge in alot younger age and doing excellent work welding on the box Andy and company have been making for his Uncle I believe.

Andy you could use a lathe the way that part like pines and bushings that take a month to get if you had a lethal you could mechanic one out and back together the same day or the next day.

Andy you may want to look into building a boom that slides onto your forklift forks we had one and I built 2 more when I worked at JD was a handy tool hat hooks on the end and half way up long with a couple shorter lifting staps and chains i think I ised it daily the fabricator we had befor myself built a slip on 3point hitch for moving equipment also thinking your equipment would mostly be to big for that thought

Boom right up as high as it'll go. Hold it there with gantry. Remove bottom ram pin. Leave top ram pin in. Pull lever to retract ram. Ram base retracts & clears housing. Now you can get at the lower pin eye. Just, but you can. If it's tight, raise boom with gantry a bit more. Fit new pre-ordered bushings, fix grease line in-situ, do hoses, in situ.. Extend ram back into position.. fit pin back in.. go do teleporter work. That big job just became a very short job.. There are plenty of shortcuts that can save a lot of mucking about. I used dick about a lot with these JCB's for customers. :-)

If I remember right that JCB is still new. Living in UK I feel a bit guilty that British junk has let you down so early on. When you get a press, I would also get a lathe. You could then produce your own shafts and bushes. Good luck with getting JCB support on this. PS: other subscribers know a lot more about your kit than I do.

I realize that that is a pretty hefty cylinder for the telehandler, but considering how much it will lift and how far out it can lift it, I thought the cylinder would be even bigger than that being that it is the sole lift cylinder..

If you said I must've missed it, but that obviously has a remote grease point, so has the line been off for sometime and the grease hasn't been making it to that pin and bushing, or was it burned up with grease? I've noticed that work on the forage box has been at standstill, I figured you were waiting on your Uncle's check to clear, I know what it's like dealing with family, especially when there's money involved......😉 It won't be long before you'll have to stop all of this indoor mechanic/fabrication work, and get outdoors and start farming again.
