I got married last September and made my own bouquet. I used 20 roses, 10 pink and 10 cream, and added a few sprigs of gypsophilia here and there. It cost £6.50 in flowers. Florist prices started at £50.00. It was so easy to do and I feel so proud that I made it myself. Everyone commented on how professional it looked. Go for it - you will save a fortune.

Wendy Taylor thinking of make my own aswell, can you give me some pointers....how close to the wedding did you make them and where did you store them?thanks!
@wendytaylor729 жыл бұрын
I bought the flowers two days before the wedding to give the roses time to open. Put them in plenty of water with some flower food and out of direct sunlight. I made the bouquet on the day of the wedding. It only took about 10 minutes. You will need someone to help you tie the flowers together once you have arranged them (one to hold the arrangement and one to tie it securely together). Once it's arranged, just put the stem ends in some shallow water to keep fresh. Good luck!
@stacyparker45598 жыл бұрын
+Wendy Taylor, I'm glad it worked out for you. It doesn't for everyone. But you're missing a major point. You're talking like florists are somehow ripping people off. You're completely disregarding the principles of commerce. Let's pretend your job is a secretary. Would you be ok if your boss was like, "I can't believe I'm having to pay you that much per hour when you're just filing and answer the phone. I can file and answer the phone and it wouldn't cost me anything!"?? No, because your time and service are worth something, right? But yet it seems that you are expecting florists to buy flowers at wholesale (which takes time), condition them (which takes time), open the doors to their shop so you can come in and order the bouquet (which takes time), arrange the bouquet (which takes time) and then deliver it (which takes time) all for free? And if they don't do that, they're SO horrible because you could do all of those things for free! Do you go to a restaurant, order a steak which costs $30 and then complain because you could have bought the steak for $10 in the grocery store and cooked it yourself? No, you wouldn't. Did you feel negatively toward your dress maker because you could have bought the fabric for much cheaper and sewn it yourself? I wouldn't imagine you did. Or maybe you did considering this post. At some point in life you have to realize there is a value to people's time. Not to mention the actual expenses of running a business: rent on a brick and mortar store or rent for storage for a home studio, a website, phone service, employees, electrical bill, water bill, a sign with their name on it, advertising, education to stay abreast of trends, supplies and the list goes on and on. Again, great for you that you threw some flowers together and felt it looked presentable. And who knows...you may have a gift when it comes to floral design. But that still doesn't mean there isn't value to a professional. Tell people you did your own flowers, fine. But don't bash an industry you know nothing about.
@wendytaylor728 жыл бұрын
At what point am I "bashing an industry I know nothing about"? All I said was that I made a perfectly presentable bouquet for the cost of the flowers as opposed to paying a florist £50.00 plus for the same thing. I know quite a few people who have done their own wedding flowers, which is where I got the idea from. Weddings are very expensive and people try to save some money where they can. My husband made our three tier cake. Before you say anything, he can bake and ice beautifully. The cheapest cake we saw was two tiers and cost £250.00. Putting aside people's time, this is a cake. It is made of flour, fruit, eggs, spices, brandy and sugar. My husband makes cakes so I know how long these things take to put together and it doesn't justify their hefty price tags. Some are as much as £1000.00. Also, a lot of cake makers work from home so don't have premises etc to pay for. Regarding my dress, I got an ex-sample dress and jacket off e-bay. Because it had been on a mannequin and was last season's stock, I got it for £35.00. I certainly would not have paid hundreds, if not thousands, for something I wore once for a few hours. Some people I know have spent more on their dresses than my entire wedding cost. Look at the amount of people selling wedding dresses they have paid thousands for on e-bay for a few hundred pounds. Who is the fool? We had a fantastic day for a lot less than some people spend and I am not apologising for that. I encourage people to do the same and save what money they can.

Hi Morrisa! Glad you liked the video. There is a flower glue on the market by Oasis that you can attach the crystals to your bouquet with. Another option is to get crystals with a pick on the end and just insert them into the bouquet. Hope this helps! Diana

My sister and I did the flowers for my wedding the night before. When they are finished, put them where they will remain out of direct light in a dependably cool area. We do the flowers at the church or venue and leave them in the bride's room or big refrigerators overnight, whenever possible. Once they warm up, they'll begin to open. If they are suddenly or overheated, they will wilt. Won't be having that! I had a tight, round bouquet of standard and sweetheart roses only, half red, half ivory, petal edges tinged with red, surrounded by an ecru crochet edge. It is customary, and best, to buy the flowers early in the morning, as you don't want to take them from AC out into the hottest part of the day, nor place them in a hot car. Also, make sure, when you buy the flowers, they are in excellent condition. Look closely for the very top edges of the petals to look dry or shriveled. If so, they've been bitten by cold, and will only deteriorate, and quickly. Best Wishes on your wedding! PS You could, perhaps, go ahead and get some very inexpensive flowers, daisies or carnations, for instance, and practice handling and placing, and using the various wires, tapes and ribbons. It is good to get the hang of it a bit. I did not find it difficult. Take your time and enjoy it. It will be a nice part of your memories! It is a lot of fun. My sister did flowers and cakes for weddings for years, and as an 11-16 year old, I often helped her. Going to the wholesale florist, giant rooms full of flowers, floor to ceiling, is great, big fun!
@angelabluebird6098 жыл бұрын
Oops, when you unwrap roses to work with them, re-cut the stems (only a short length) and put them in tepid-to-cool, not warm or cold, water. They will drink from the newly cut ends and last better and longer. When you want to end floral tape, give it a little pull to stretch the end a bit, tear it, then lay it where you want it. My sister taught me to keep the tape flat and wrap much more slowly than shown here. This lady's stem end, that the bride holds and that does show in person and in photos, would have been much smoother, prettier and more professional if she had taken the proper amount of time and attention. Creating the best of beauty, honoring the wedding and the flowers, takes time, as well it should.

@dianaryan98011 жыл бұрын
You will need to add the stephanotis the day of the wedding, because it is a very tender flower, with basically no stem. You will need to insert a stephanotis stem at the base of the bloom, then glue into the bouquet with flower glue made by oasis.
@dianaryan98011 жыл бұрын
Ideally you want the roses to be at 75% open. So if they are in that stage, put them in the fridge. If they still need to open up, leave them out at room temperature approximately 70-75 degrees. HOpe this helps!

Thank you for your interest in my videos! The tape is really floral tape, not scotch tape it is specifically designed for flowers. I then wrap it in ribbon and pin the ribbon in place. The pin has a pearl head and is about 2" long Diana Ryan

I am sorry. This is like a horror movie for me. The stems were not spiral out in one direction. If she uses soft stems flowers, the flowers will all crash and die!! It was not even round. I don't know why she can teach floral arrangement. She certainly does not know she has already mislead a lot of people. OMG~~NOOOO~~poor roses~~

Onely Design Studio I agree that her design is not as smooth as others I have seen created on KZbin, but she has explained some things that other florists haven't. And I can see why it's important that the stems turn in the same direction!
