Very good instruction, thanks. A thought I use to achieve the correct right wrist position is to feel that I'm trying to play a shot from under overhanging trees and I'm therefore leading the club head with my hands, in order to keep the ball low.

wouldnt this go against the idea of releasing the wrists through the swing? arent we supposed to be moving the wrists from extension into flexion to keep the club face square?
@Joe_Dominates4 ай бұрын
No. You’re still releasing the wrists through the swing but you’re targeting aligning the “mid-release” point with contact if that makes sense

Club speed 10 mph faster has improved the distance- not just the de-lofting / extension.
@jchowngolf4 ай бұрын
A big reason of the faster speed was the effect that wrist angles have on body rotation. Losing angle will cause a rotational stall, whereas keeping angle will result in a freer flowing rotation. Rotation moving through the ball along with good sequenced vertical force will lead to more speed 👍🏼

The right wrist is ideally still extended for driver but not as much as irons. Also depends on your club head speed. The more speed you have, the more you can extend the left wrist 👍🏼

i kinda have grooved this into my swing and have gained 10+ yards but my shots go really low, like my 5 iron goes 170yds now but only 20 feet off the ground. the other problem is my newer pxg clubs have +2 or +3 stronger lofts which is not helping. i hit the ball quite solid though.

isnt the extra distance just from the extra 9mph club speed?
@jchowngolf4 ай бұрын
Most of it but not all of it. The faster speed is due to the maintenance of right wrist angle, which keeps the body rotating through the ball. Right wrist straightening will cause a stall out of rotation through impact which will dump the speed hugely. Another good reason to keep the right wrist extended 👍🏼

Question, can they just make clubs that are less lofted so we don’t have to be a contortionist to hit the ball? lol
@milanzare52894 ай бұрын
It’s also about where you low point is, if the swing arc is bottoming out at the ball your gonna have a hard time not thinning the ball. However, most of the game improvement sets are made with less loft for this exact reason☺️
@jchowngolf4 ай бұрын
Clubs have already been de-lofted a ton. For example, most modern 7 irons will be a similar loft to a 5 iron of 15 years ago. Not sure manufacturers can get away with de-lofting clubs more

@@pdsdownunder3010Less stress on the wrists, big hands, less general wrist action, stable clubface etc🙂
Nothing to do with how much faster you're swinging the club then?
@jchowngolf4 ай бұрын
Yes, which is due to freer rotation through impact due to the right wrist being extended. Stalling out rotation due to a flat right wrist (stalling out rotation from any causer) will cause a big drop in speed.
@ms-uq9ft4 ай бұрын
Why is your club speed slower on the first three shots?
@jchowngolf4 ай бұрын
Right wrist flexion will cause rotation to stall and speed to be dumped earlier in the swing, resulting in a lower club head speed
@Robster64804 ай бұрын
Ridiculous. He is clearly swinging a lot faster in the second set of swings and that isn’t just down to his wrist position. I don’t have perfect wrist conditions and can still hit a 7 iron 170 yds.
@jchowngolf4 ай бұрын
I had the exact same speed intent on all sets of swings. Losing wrist angles is a huge speed dump for both club & ball speed

I want to see a clear explanation as to WHY something works, not just some blind faith that doing one thing is better than another. Also, there are TWO types (major) of swings out there. Always explain which one the advice applies to. (is there a name for these two different swings?)
@Chris543214 ай бұрын
Classic, modern, stack and tilt, single plane, etc. Seeing golf tips from different methods has messed me up very badly. I asked another KZbin coach if he teaches classic or modern and he said kind of a mix of both. I guess one solution would be to only have/watch one coach, but make sure that coach is consistently teaching one swing, not little bits of 6 different swings. It drives me insane.

Excellent video. I have just been practicing this and it does seem to work. The key appears to be maintaining rotation through the ball, which I sometimes struggle with, and staying relaxed through impact. The arms have to follow the body. I also have an issue with early flexion of the wrist during the downswing, leading to fat shots. This move definitely reduces that tendency. The training aid is similar in principle to Greg Norman’s Secret. I purchased one a few years ago, but struggled to get on with it, due to my tendency to flip at impact. It works much better if you can avoid that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4uZYYGklsmMeM0si=hpZ1RHhUpdHzA1vL I also remember seeing a video by Tom Lehman demonstrating the G4 Swing Trainer. He advocated something like the motorcycle move, by turning down the knuckles through impact and maintaining wrist extension. He said bad things happen if you flip through impact and from personal experience he is right!
