You're an un-replacable resource, Joe. Me and a professional roofing buddy, who had no experience with slate, re-slated the roof on my 1885 Victorian a few years back with tools I got from you, the Slate Roof Bible and your very informative videos. You saved me tens of thousands of dollars and taught me and my friend incredibly valuable new skills.

The hooks will fit on any rigid single ladder section.

Thanks, great video, may save my life! Why can you not use it on an extension ladder. I just bought these hooks and plan to use them on a long steepish roof. Only extension ladders are tall enough to reach the top. I'll be using a 22 step little giant ladder. The hooks fit fin, so why would you not recommend it?
@John01GM402 жыл бұрын
fascinating how standards vary between USA and elsewhere. The idea of a single pivoting angle iron for a roof ladder frankly terrifies me. In Europe you would use 2 hooks per ladder and they would have round (rubber coated) ends, not angle iron, and they won't pivot.
@williamcrawford1085 Жыл бұрын
Your sshouodn to use two hooks here in the states too.

How well will the hook work on a metal roof? I’m thinking about making one similar to “The Goat” but with a 16’ 2x4 and steps eliminating the bulk of a ladder.
@Rezornch_and_Dvelenktronx Жыл бұрын
Excellent idea!!! I want to make one, too. Been dreaming up designs… If you make something, please post a short video on KZbin with a title that we can search (Something like: DIY Goat roofing hook) Best wishes.

Very observant. The original video was 5 minutes and had over 17,000 views. I deleted it, edited out 45 seconds of it, and then uploaded it again yesterday. The ACRO yellow ladder hook had a design problem in that it bent when used. I pointed this out in the original video, but ACRO redesigned the hook to fix this design flaw. Now the ACRO hook is reinforced where the bending used to take place. Therefore, I cut out the comments about their hook bending. Now if Qualcraft would fix their stupid rotating wheel, I will be able to take down the entire video.

Joe Jenkins I bought two of the yellow ones from you... real nice product. Roll it up, flip it, adjust as needed.

You should use two hooks per ladder
@jcjenkins01 Жыл бұрын
Too heavy. Some ladder hook manufacturers recommend two hooks for their product, but ACRO hooks use one per ladder only.
@sweettony9359 Жыл бұрын
I understand the danger of the swivel wheel but if you just want to move the ladder, say, 3 feet to the right from where it is you can stand on your main ladder, flip the roof ladder, and wheel it sideways three feet, flip it over and up you go. Otherwise, you need to bring the roof ladder down off the roof, rearrange your main ladder, bring the roof ladder back up, and reset it each time. Right?
@jcjenkins01 Жыл бұрын
No. It's easy to slide the ladder along a metal ridge. Just flip it over and slide it. Or, get on the ridge, pull the ladder up to its balance point, and slide it along. Or, roll it from below, such as from a ground ladder or from a roof scaffold.
@toddbrown30554 жыл бұрын
Makes complete sense using a non swivel wheel.

As of this writing, yes that do. I replaced the swivel wheel with a static wheel. Much better.

Why not just buy a crawler ladder that has hooks on it and you can extend?
@jcjenkins01 Жыл бұрын
On high steep roofs, especially large ones, hook ladders can be carried along the ridge by standing upright and walking like on a tightrope. On most restoration jobs, one hook ladder remains in place to allow access to the ridge from the eaves. Other hook ladders are carried to various places around the roof by walking the ridges. Single-section ladders with one hook at one end allow for this maneuvering.

Or just replace it with a wheel of the same size that doesn’t swivel.
