Thanks Mark. I needed this video. I bought a 1997 14SB last summer and need to replace the wheels now. This has helped me tremendously. New subscriber.

I know this is an old video, but I just picked up a John Deere 14SZ with a like new rear bag that the previous owner never used for $25 on a local quarter auction. The Briggs and Stratton engine runs great. He just mulched his lawn with the rear door closed. Only thing wrong is the worn out front and back wheels and I’m thinking I can fix them on the cheap. Thanks for the 411…!

thanks, I was wondering if I needed different wheels for rear v. front. Bought this mower mid 1990s and still love it. I put it away one year, take it out the next spring, add fuel, and usually starts first pull. Amazing. Don't know how they do that. I'm trying to find correct debris shield replacement. First ones ordered supposed to be correct, but slightly too small and don't fit.

John Deere dealer told me on my 14sb that wheel bolts need to be tightened to only 10 ft-lbs torque. You can wreck the wheels if tightened too much. So guy's take it easy with the ratchet/air gun!

You should clean out the valleys of the gear on the rear wheels, as well as the actual drive gear. This will allow the gears to mesh better.

How do I know where the tabs are in the wheel cover? Is the John Deere logo on that little cap, that would indicate where the tabs are. Or is there a tiny little slot for the screwdriver? Thank you.

Stop knocking the dealer. When you need a part for "maybe" once in the life of the mower it's not worth the effort to shop for hours on end to save $5. And remember, the "web store" doesn't have it all, and you need to buy from the dealer so he/she can stay in business. If you need that part the "web store" don't have that sells for $10 ... and the dealer has closed down, all of a sudden you've got a $500 machine sitting there pretty useless for you. I own one of these mowers, selling price new ... over $1,000,00 ... and that was 20 years ago. Bought mine from a retiree moving south. If you own a premium mower, expect premium prices as their parts cost more to make.

Good video...Thanks. I have a question though. Mine, when set to the highest setting cuts at 3.5 in. Normally it is fine for my grass, but I'd like to be able to cut a .25 or .50 in higher if necessary. Are there any other wheels that would fit this model that are maybe a inch wider? Or are there any other adjustments that could be made to allow for a higher cut? Thank you.

I have a 14se, just ordered new wheels (not in yet). My issue is the two rear wheels seem loose, like the angle out to the side when the mower weight is on them, straighten out when you lift the mower up in the back. you seem like the guy to ask, is this a bushing issue? any insight appreciated. thank you.

I changed my wheels on my JD 14SE using your video. But when I engage the self propelled feature, only the left wheel spins. Did I do something incorrectly?

@@bch5513 A JD dealer that serviced it told me the washers were not put on correctly. Funny since a different JD dealer caused other problems with the self-propelled unit.
