Well with the hydraulic pump off its time to start putting the new belts on and get them adjusted as I go. The first belt to put on it was the unloading auger drive belt and it went on easy and then it was get it adjusted up witch took several trips up and down the ladder pulling the lever to make sure it was adjusted right and I got it and moved onto the hydraulic pump belt and got it put on and tightened up witch turned out to be fun . When you screwed up your shoulder up working over head get to be real fun when you start dropping tools ! But I got it done and moved onto the feeder house drive belt and had a bit of fun getting it on and adjusted but I found a couple of things that I am going to have to take a closer look at that might need to be replaced dew to ware and lack of grease. Next video will be of putting more belts on and was taken the same day as this was. I hope you have enjoyed watching and maybe learning something new from it. Bandit

I'll be really happy not to hear the whine of that old traction drive belt under the seat anymore ! LOL But now the belts are all on and all the changes have been made I really hope harvest goes good and smooth ! This is the first time I've ever done this much to a combine and the only reason I did was because it is a low hour machine and now it should be in really good shape . All new belts is a big worry off my mind now and from what I have run it I think its going to be a good one ! I'm really looking forwards to getting into harvest with it and its going to be fun ! I have been getting our new to us 4400 ready for harvest. There is a rubber flap up in the front of the chaffer that was bad. So we took out the chaffer and sieve and the shoe frames. We also found the rubber strips on the side of the shoe were bad. These are no longer available so we have to improvise. Many of the rubber bushings on the shoe were also bad so we are also replacing these. We also had to replace the unloading auger belt under the seat. Working under there is a lot of fun for someone 6' 6' and 300 lbs. lol Ours is diesel but it has about 3200 hrs on it.

Looks good! JD would have charged a fortune for that work lol. Once your done with that combine it will be like new! I'm sure once we get the 7600 in the field again, we will have to replace every belt and bearing on it before we could even think of using it in the field lol. Age and lack of use takes a toll on equipment.

I dont even want to think about what JD would have charged to change all those belts, I'll bet it would have been 2 or 3 times what I gave for the combine ! There are a lot of new bearings put on this combine not long ago and it is really in pretty good shape and low hours on it it made it easy to go ahead and put belts on it. Now I have a 1200 hour combine with all new belts on it so it should last me a long time ! I'd like to rebuild my old 95 but I'm getting to the point of I'm getting tired of working on equipment all the time so I might sell it and the corn head and try something else on the 4400. Who know I might build a 6x20 corn head for it ! Bandit

Working on a combine can get to be a real work out trying to get to things to fix them ! You get into some of the most akwards places to try to do something they ever was ! I've climbed in and out of the cab on the 4400 so many times now it makes my knees hurt to look at the ladder now ! But it a job that has to be done no matter what ! Them boys at the gym might be able to out work us for a 1/2 hour to an hour but they cant hold a candle to us all day working ! LOL Cousin Bandit

I'd say you should have a decent combine when you're done... (are we ever done?). How are the beans looking? I'm betting you're ready to put the old girl to work. This series of videos has been informative and helpful to those looking to understand what it takes to make things work.

Bill I really hope so ! LOL When I started taking belts off and seeing how bad some of they were I had to change them all so I did. Now that it has all new belts on it and I've pretty much gone threw the machine as I changed belts looks to be in really good shape now. She Is all back together now and the only real thing I have to do is fire it up and test the govener out and make sure its right and the engine is running at the right speed. I had to change govener's as the one on it was bad so I got the one off the parts machine so I hope I dont have to do a lot of adjusting on it. I really made these video's because I couldnt find any on doing it so I figured if I got to do the work I might as well video it so someone later who needs to do this can see how its done before they start . I can also say I've done the work on it and everyone can see I went threw it and made it right. If this machine had 3500 hours on it I would have never done this, But it being a 1200 hour 1 owner machine its worth putting the work into it that I've done cause its going to be around for a good while ! I hope when I start cutting after some adjustments she runs good and smooth and have a trouble free harvest ! One way or another its going to be a fun harvest ! Bandit

Man you aint a kidding ! LOL But when you got more time than money you spend wisely and do the work yourself ! LOL Could you imagine what JD would have charged me to do what I've done ? I shutter to think about it ! But one thing about it when I'm done I know it will be right and ready to roll without worries about belts , It should be good running ! LOL I hope so ! Bandit

Great video bandit. Do you still think that’s a 1200hr combine? There a lot of worn out pulleys and bushings. There’s one thing about it. When your done it will be like new.

I still believe its a 1200 hour machine, What I see in the pullies is a lack of grease ! Without grease things ware out fast and thats what I'm seeing. The two pullies on the feeder house didnt have any grease zerks on them, The ones on it I put on and from the looks of it they havent been on for a long time. The grease I scraped out of them was hard for the most part and I could see the grease I put in it so when I got done with a side I made sure it got a good greasing ! The big ware parts on a machine are in really good shape and match a 1200 hour machine for there ware. A combine will tell you a story if you look close and pay attention to what it has to say. When I'm done the combine will be right and ready to roll ! Bandit

Well now I got everything off its time to start putting new belts on the JD 4400, Right now its start with the new unloading auger drive belt put on and adjusted while its easy to do. When its put the hydraulic pump drive belt on and get it adjusted up good and tight as it runs the hydraulic reel. Then I was going to put the 2 belt on that drive the counter shaft till I figured out I had to put the drive belt of for the header/feeder house drive belt on first so with a little work I finally got it on. They didnt make this easy to get that belt on thats for sure ! But these belts are put on now and adjusted up and I'm going to have to look at the variable speed pulley a little closer cause its loose and it looks like the lack of grease is the cause ! But I have a parts machine to get the parts off of to use so no big deal. I hope you have enjoyed watching me work threw putting the belts on and maybe learning something new. Bandit
