The 800 is a torque converter drive. Very similar to driving an automatic car transmission. It starts out in torque converter mode and then can be shifted into direct drive, which locks up the torque converter. It is meant to be shifted into gear at a slow idle idle to try to avoid grinding.

255 Case 800B Standard tractors were made. A lot more were made with the row crop front axle. That looks like an 801B Diesel row crop.
