I met jimmy outside of The Cabaret metro back in the day when The Moondogs opened up for The stray cats. Probably around 93? I asked him how he got that slap sound and he told me " pull that string back as far as you can and slap it back to the neck as hard as you can" lol. I played like that for 20 years. Just saw him in Ft. Collins Colorado last year with JD doing the xmas show. Still a brilliant player.

Two of my favorite upright bass players not mentioned here are Johnny Sciascia (Boston) and Chris Scruggs (Nashville). Seeing Chris play upright with Marty Stuart was an education.

Perhaps you'd like to check out Slick Joe Flick, a mind blowing slap bass player from Memphis. There are several videos of him on KZbin both playing solo and with his band the Dempseys. Incredible stuff
