These engines don't seem to be getting into a lot of equipment. There are a lot of KZbin videos of farmers and others complaining about DEF problems. An engine that does not require DEF, and needs less maintenance, would seem to be a major breakthrough, and everybody would want it. Just exactly what equipment is getting these engines?

model year 23 9500, 9600 and 9700 forage harvesters are getting them, and model year 22 9500 and 9600 forage harvesters had them.

The JD18 is designed for off-highway applications requiring higher power (up to 677 kW / 908 hp), such as agriculture and construction equipment and large pumps.

Would be nice to apply the same technology in 3/4 ton, 1 ton trucks and tractor trailer to eliminate the need for after treatment, the #1 cause of modern diesel failure

What if there is a new engine technology out there that would deliver the same hp-torque for about 50% less capacity-weight using the simplest VCR technology on the market to date. This New VCR engine technology would make JD the leader in engine tech for decades to come. Would JD be interested in exploring this new VCR engine tech to get ahead the competition. Let me know.

Thanks for your question, Bård. The JD18, part of our Next Generation Engine lineup, is engineered primarily for construction and agriculture applications. The engine can also be used for other off-highway applications requiring higher power (up to 677 kW (908 hp) and peak torque (up to 4240 Nm (3135 lb-ft @1400 rpm), such as large pumps.
