at the end if you look at gojo's eyes you can see the redness underneath it, which lead me to believe he was probably shedding some tears while remembering everything that happened

The Japanese monk's garment that Getou wears at the end of the story, the cloth over his shoulders, is called a "kesa" in Japanese. There are several types of kesa, and the version Geto wears is officially called "Gojo-kesa" He goes out of his way to wear the same kesa as his best friend's name when there are other options. Years after this scene, and for that matter during the "movie," he continues to wear the Gojo kesa. The ending they follow is a separation, but their friendship is sadly beautiful. (The author has made it clear that this was not an accident, but an intentional dressing.)

Geto would not have fell deeper into the darkness. Now it’s too late Do take a listen to the Ending Song ‘Akari’ with English lyrics, it’s highlighted that the song represents Geto POV. 8:57 It’s because of what Geto said to him at the cult place last ep. He said no to killing the group and said why not to. Saying that there needs to be a point to taking action to kill. There needs to be meaning. If Geto said yes, we’d see a much different Geto AND Gojo. That stayed with Gojo and luckily, he stuck with it and he’s now a very good person. That entire incident with Toji & Riko really resonated with him a lot and just messed up his mindset. The Cult (Non sorcerers) clapping for the death of his friend (Riko). Though Riko was a non sorcerer, she was his friend already at that point. He hated that he’s saving those humans all for him and other jujutsu sorcerers to end up dying. He just wants to protect his friends and fellow jujutsu sorcerers. His reasoning is very understandable but it’s just not right to do. Yuki gave him the idea & Haibara’s death solidified it.

I think another interesting aspect that people overlook is the toll of being one of the most powerful jujutsu sorcerers took on Geto physically and mentally. Especially when Gojo became more powerful, and thus they were forced to do missions alone to maximize curse exorcism. Gojo by that point could use the reverse cursed technique, which allowed him to constantly rejuvenate and heal his body, in essence reducing the need for rest/sleep and allowing him to operate at 100% capacity the entire time. He basically doesn't really fatigue unless expending massive amounts of cursed energy. Geto didn't have this option, and thus the workload and the nature of his technique started taking a toll.

​@@huehuehuey First of all, the principal doesn't smoke. Also, Shoko often has a cigarette in her mouth, but there are few scenes where she actually smokes. The scenes where she actually smokes are only after feeling a strong stress such as "losing a friend". This is just my guess, but I think she's the type to become a heavy smoker when she feels a strong stress.

Gojo didn't even receive the document and was only verbally told by Yaga. There is also the connection of the scenes, someone is reading the document then immediately after Yaga is telling Gojo about Geto. Also, that is not how anime typically draw women's hands.

Undoubtedly my favourite episode. This story is genius because there's such a thoughtful plot that treads the delicate line of morality and loved your guys discussion on that. Gojo and Geto's internal conflict was mesmerising, two opposite changes in mentality but for the same reason of "being the strongest is not enough". And it was delivered like a Japanese indie movie where the absence of sound forcces you to contemplate

It also ties in with Megumi: in season one when they are in the prison and he tells yuji “I don’t want to save that prisoner, cause he’s a bad person who killed a young girl (aka yuta’s friend in vol 0) and he did that cause he always drives drunk and doesn’t care about others”. Megumi as well as Geto talk about justice, cause they both are so aware and enraged by the evil nature of people and interesting both are affected by toji. But megumi has the chance (due to not being alone, being guided by Gojo and being friends with yuji) to evolve past this black and white mentality. Geto didn’t have that chance, he was isolated, couldn’t open up to his friends, Gojo evolved without him and he kept reliving his trauma and hatred in his head). That’s why when you think about it Gojos actions in the present are so moving: he told Geto as his final words “you’re my best friend. The only one I had” cause he realised over time that Geto was also deeply affected by the toji situation and that he left him alone because he thought Geto was morally and emotionally stronger than him and he didn’t notice that his friend was going through it. He didn’t do it out of lack of care, he just truly saw Geto as stronger emotionally than he was and couldn’t see the fragility of his friend. And also the fact that Gojo wants to nurture and create cohesion within his students and make them as strong as he is, so that no one ever has to feel alone like Geto did, no one has to loose anyone anymore like Gojo did. It’s not even about power to him, he truly cherished his friend Geto more than his powers. And loosing him was painful. And also realising that the system of the clans is toxic: that’s why he hates the higher ups and also enrolled Mai Zenin cause he also understood why Toji was like that and he doesn’t want anyone to turn out like that just cause they don’t have cursed energy. Geto truly understood everything wrong about the world he was living in and is doing all the necessary work to help future generations to break the cycle. But all this was at the cost of losing his best friend, equally strong and really sensitive person forever, seeing him turn into a monster and having to kill him. It’s so sad.

A few things I wanted to point out but wanted to wait until this arc was finished to avoid spoilers is if you watch the opening credits you’ll Geto and Gojo smiling and being happy go lucky which is representative of their characters at the beginning of the arc. However if you watch the end credits Geto’s demeanour is more gloomy and he doesn’t smile and there’s a moment where there’s a selfie of Geto, Gojo, and Shoko and all of them are visibly happy whereas Geto is solemn and this represents how after the events of this arc Geto was hit emotionally and psychologically in a way he couldn’t recover from. Another thing is after Toji dies Gojo gets Megumi and Geto gets his inventory curse. The name Megumi means blessing and the inventory curse is as we all know a cursed spirit. This symbolises how their interactions with Toji impacted their characters (Gojo became blessed by becoming more powerful and matured to become more considerate of others whereas Geto became cursed by seeing the worse in humanity and thus ‘falls from grace’).

Missing details(no spoilers): 1. Geto just had gotten his ass kicked for the first time, he used to say: "We are the strongest". (That kinda reminded me of when Yuji got his fingers chopped off and had a breakdown in season 1, realizing he's not that strong）. 2. There are a lot more curse spirits that came out for these few months because Gojo had awakened power, it's like some sort of balance-maintaining mechanism in the jujutsu world. So Geto probably sees a lot more of his comrade sorcerers dying in these few months(Haibara is one of them), that's also the reason that Geto hasn't got a chance to talk to Gojo during that time. 3. Those 2 skull curse spirits are the parents of the girls, they were untrained sorcerers who were persecuted to dead by people in that village, then turned into curse spirits.

I do believe Gojo was still on that high a bit when he was carrying Riko…..but I also believe when asking that question to Geto, he probably thinks about those kinds of things normally given his strength. In the most humane way? Idk how to explain it. It’s almost like Dr Manhattan from watchmen. Being on a different spectrum of strength and becoming detached. Edit: I listened to more of the discussion and you guys brought up another great topic: So that same scene where Gojo mentioned taking out those people. I think if they both went through with it, Gojo wouldn’t of saw himself as a villain or even turn into one. Even if he would have had to flee or go into hiding, I think he’d somehow justify it. Whereas Geto I don’t feel the same; I think that could’ve turned him bad cause of his experiences
