Nah this is twice as bad as that. Itachi didn't actually invent the genjutsu that Kurenai used, he was simply a prodigy from a clan of naturally superior genjutsu users. But you could easily make a case that since Sasori knew his puppets would be passed on to others, he might have intentionally built those flaws into them in case they were ever used against him.
