Tiger not being able to accept humans while still trying to do what he feels is right always remind me of my late grandmother. She was incredibly kind even with strangers, but experienced nazi occupation as a kid (I'm French), and as a result had an instinctive fear / distrust of Germans. She knew it wasn't rational, but she couldn't help it, it was a trauma.

The actual first time was back in Enies Lobby.... as he was one of the vice admirals leading the Buster Call. That's our Oda, never leaving a character wasted.....

2 things I want to say on Arlong: 1. If you meet people who have experienced real racism esp older black folk in the US, you'll sense a similar distrust of white people in general. This is due to their lived experiences and it's really hard to change that, as this is almost like self-defense and preservation. Some of them like Fisher Tiger still have hope that the future will be different, even though they cannot change themselves 2. Arlong had a similar mindset, I fully believe that if the Koala rescue operation went successfully, it would have been a new page to turn to Arlong. This could have been a turning point for him (not that he'd become a saint instantly). But the betrayal from the humans only helped Arlong confirm his existing feelings rather than challenge them. This is probably my favourite backstory in all of one piece

Good idea!

What you wrote made think of an I idea I had a little while ago - If Boa Hancock and her sisters had ever met with the rest of the Sun Pirates to express their sympathy over Fisher Tiger's death and to acknowledge the debt they owe him (something we know they'd never do because they don't want anyone to know that they were once slaves). When I imagine it I see Jinbei being cautious and perhaps a little cold, but ultimately courteous and civil towards them. But I also see Arlong perhaps considering the fact that they and humans (amongst other races) were also enslaved just like the fishmen and merfolk, but ultimately not letting himself feel sympathy for them and instead basically spitting poison at them with every word, saying that no one screams when they see them or say that they have fish brains even if they can walk or accuses them of spreading diseases, even if they were slaves.

The fact that fisher tiger are more angrier than arlong at the last moment just show how traumatized he is
@agenttheater56 ай бұрын
I mean - wouldn't you be angry? He returned a little girl who had been kidnapped and enslaved and he was met with fear and mistrust by the people he returned her to, and then he was betrayed by them. Plus......I wonder if it also made him angry, the navy saying that Koala was the rightful property of the Celestial Dragons, the fact that these humans were still turning a blind eye to the slave trade and were putting the Celestial Dragons ahead of a little girl who was made a slave and was traumatised. Do you get what I mean, when I said it may have added to his anger?
@ahmedabdullah67794 ай бұрын
@@agenttheater5 Not only that , fisher tiger was a slave to a celestial dragon which is way worse than any other "master" to get slaved to , plus he had already going on trips so he probably was one of the most if not the most fishman who saw the worst from humans over and over , so this demon inside him is his massive hatred towards the humans , and you can either forgive the others or supress the hatred , and forgiveness isn't that easy with this massive hatred espicaly if the ones who kept mistreating you doesn't apologise nor even feel bad or consider what they done to you are wrong . So he kept supressing it and couldn't get rid of it , and he himself knew what he feels is wrong but couldn't help it , and he was stronger than jimbe and his hatred was way bigger than arlong so imagine what kind of monester he had the potential to become , and he was afraid of that and he knew there was a thin line keeping him and if he snaps he will really make arlong looks like a nice dude (either you die as a hero or live as a villan , so on a way he was like batman because batman knew if he killed the others he will snap and will be the worst villan gotham saw) , but unlike arlong he kept fighting it and as the same time tried to set an example to his followers , so he had really a big and heavy burdens on his shoulder and still kept fighting to what he saw is right and kept his feelings and secret past to himself until the situation worsened and he refused the human blood , at that moment his crew knew he already became what he hated the most (like the racist human) long ago , but instead of passing it he tried to make them understand even in his dying breath to that to try to not let the next generation hate the humans and to not let his death becomes a symbol to do what he his whole life was trying not to . So hody is what the queen and fisher tiger feared the most , not for his strength , but hody is like the racist human because he hatred for the humans doesn't come from his personal expirence like arlong and fisher tiger and aladdin , he inherited from the others and wants to pass that that to the others , so this way even if fishmen and humans knew each other (the theme of koala backstory , that most of humans are only afraid of you not hates you) the hatred will keeps going . So fisher tiger is one of the greatest charactar even when his name isn't with most lovable charactar from the fandom , because he isn't a hypocrite , a complex yet understandable charactar and realistic and admirable . And his charactar (if you see this channel abd the other reactors) how we almost all had a superficiality way of looking into such a deep something like racism , that it can make a very good guy who held his beliefs till the end but he couldn't get rid of his hatred even when he is about to die because of it and when he knows it is stupid and when he kept fighting it to not get consumed by it his whole life

I've wondered sometimes if that added to his anger and resentment in his last hours - the fact that the navy were openly vocal about their turning a blind eye to the slave trade and were putting the Celestial Dragons and their "property" ahead of the life of a little girl who was kidnapped, sold, enslaved and traumatised. I mean, combined with his own trauma of a being a slave, what he saw the other slaves of all races go through, and the fact that he returned Koala to her home and the only recognition he got for it was distrust and fear from the villagers and then their turning him in - it all connects. I can't blame him for his anger - and the fact that he knows it's the wrong way to look at the world around him and that hatred will only make things worse for fishmen....it adds to his character.

Fisher Tiger is my favorite flashback character off all time. He caries this HUDGE hatred for humans, but he keeps it down. Why? Because he don't wont to poison the next generation with it. One of the best moments is when Koala keep trying to hold his hand. He struggles between his hatred of humans and his like of Koala. In the end he let Koala win and he belives that everything is fine... Then he is ambushed. And the reasons for his hatred is reignited. However even after that he keep saying that Otohime's way is the right one and the only way too it is trough children like Koala. He however is too far gone in his ways/hatred so the only thing he can do is die and beg his people not too spread lies about it.

This is great story for antiracism. Fishmen didn't get racist because they felt superior in first place. They got racist recreationally, by THEIR own CHOICE. Tiger and Jinbe literally admitted it. And we see how good is "getting revenge" just to satisfy someone's personal view of justice.
