I absolutely never comment on videos, but my man, you explained this 100 times better than any other video I've watched. Much appreciated.

@kyra5783 thank you SO much for the kind words! I'm so unbelievably pumped jOeCHEM is making OChem less scary (and hopefully fun!). In case you haven't checked out my website joechem.io, you'll find all the same videos with worksheets, solutions, videos of me doing the worksheets, and study guides (i'm still working on many of these). Thank you so much for being a jOeCHEMist! I'd super appreciate if you spread the word if someone you know may benefit from it too. Good luck this semester--you're going to crush it!

Joe, you are absolutely underrated. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Huston for Ochem 1, and although she recommended your videos, I didn't watch them. It wasn't until now, when I am taking Ochem 2 with Dr. Bandik, that I understand why you were recommended (again). I didn't realize you also went to Pitt! I'm not sure who you had when you were taking Ochem, but the material should be more or less the same. I deeply regret not watching your videos when I was in ochem 1 because this video was a huge help, and I figured it would've helped me then. I am excited to learn more from your videos! If any of my friends have trouble with these classes, I'll direct them to your channel

Very nicely explained! I just have one small doubt. In the butadiene structure at 3:00, I understand that the p-orbitals of C1 & C2 carbon atoms are aligned with each other which makes the pie bond between them possible. But how can we be sure that the p-orbitals of C2 & C3 carbon atoms are also aligned with each other & not at right angles to each other?

thank you so much! i love this channel! quick question though. Are those charged carbons in the vinyl position? i thought vinyl would mean its 1 away right?
@jOeCHEM5 жыл бұрын
Hey Nader! So great question, because using vinyl can honestly be can tricky. So allylic is the term you're looking for whenever you're referring to the carbon NEXT DOOR to a carbon that is part of a double bond (think the sp3 carbon in propene -- checkout 7:21 in the video kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKPZY32tateoiaM). Vinyl on the other hand refers to the collective group of both carbons IN THE DOUBLE BOND ITSELF when you have a ethylene substituent (aka when you have a branch that consists of 2 carbons and they are double bonded to one another). The allylic carbon is a position, where vinyl describes a group. Check this link out www.chem.ucla.edu/~harding/IGOC/V/vinyl_group.html I think it does a good job illustrating a vinyl group. Let me know if this makes sense or doesn't make sense! And thanks for watching :)

the solution for this videos worksheet is not posted correctly! the link takes you to conjugation #2s solutions - there is no solution key for conjugation #1 :'(

Hi j!!! Thanks for pointing that out (that was a mistake on my end). You should be able to access the solution to the worksheet now (it's also linked here for you convenience: worksheets.joechem.io/worksheets/ANSWERS%20-%20Intro%20to%20Conjugated%20Systems%20and%20Allylic%20Charges) Also, I have videos where I go through the worksheets, so be sure to check those out as well: joechem.io/videos/wksht-soln-walkthrough/36

Thanks a lot sir. I pretty sure that if you can talk more about the MO energy level digram explaining more how the electrons within the entire molecule, it will become more juicy!!!! The MO energy level diagram would be a little difference in allyl cation and allyl anion!!!

Why the stability is directly proportional to no.of.resonance structures
@jOeCHEM3 жыл бұрын
More resonance means that charge is distributed over a larger network of atoms, which is a stabilizing effect. It's always easier to lift a couch with more and more people vs just by yourself, so more resonance structure = more overall stability for that overall resonance hybrid. Does that make sense?
@dhanushas92483 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir. I am from India, tamilnadu

Sruly Appelbaum hi! So this is my own website (linked here): joechem.io/videos/21 This has all the videos and worksheets (worksheets linked below the video so you know which worksheet goes with which video). Everything on my site is free, and I will be updating descriptions on my KZbin videos, but I’m in the middle of moving everything from. Vimeo (where my videos are hosted currently) to KZbin. But go to jOeCHEM.io for a better user experience.
