In rookies the only thing you need to focus is your SR. Just dont get offtracks or any contacts if possible (offtracks is 1x and contacts with another car is 4x). Even you start from the pits, you will be fine, doesnt matter if you finish 1st or last. If you just focus on getting that SR up, you'll get out of rookies really fast. Keep this series up, love it. Keep doing what you do. Edit: Also in those cars you just have to send it sideways sometimes to get the full lap time ahah

+1 and once you get out of rookies, the next series i would recommend is the simlabs production challenge, its a 'multiclass' series, but 95% of the entries are Mx5's so in practise its a 25 minute, 30 car mx5 race, which is significantly more interesting than the short 15 min, 12 car rookie races. That series was my main series for 2 - 3 seasons, the racing is great!. Welcome to iRacing JD, we shall watch your career with great interest :P

This is such bullshit advice. In rookies you learn how to race, how to avoid accidents, both your own and those sending from the back. Also not forget that racecraft thats heaps better to learn in a slower car than anywhere else. More than enough clowns that only focused on SR and dont know how to drive in higher classes.

Not to be contrary, but I raced through Rookies. In 12 years, I have never raced for safety rating, to me, that is not why one gets into a race car, real or virtual. Just focus on racing smart and race even smarter when those around you are losing it, ie. in Rookies.

“Rookies” are not dangerous. Low iRating is dangerous because they are unpredictable or new. Rookie series in general are the most active series, and high split races are some the best races in sim racing.

Although, if you’re only goal is to get to a certain car or series, farming safety rating is fine. Start at the back and hot lap. People that get in this habit tend to have good pace eventually but no race craft.

A quick tip in using Crew Chief, you can talk to your engineer, and the first thing I do in a race is give the commands for "Pitstop clear all" and "Pitstop fast repair". What this does is tell iRacing to clear the check boxes for tire changes and fuel changes during a pitstop which you dont ever need for a sprint race, and then check the box for fast repair (you get 1 per race), and this will save you tons of time if you do have to come into the pits. You can also manually change these in your black boxes by unchecking them, but its much easier to do voice commands with CC. Bind a button on your wheel to talk to Crew Chief.

Love the move to iRacing!! It's really a blast! So your license class is only dependent on your safety rating. Safety rating is calculated by "incidents per corner," so the more corners you turn without an incident point (1x off track, 2x loss of control/barrier contact, 4x car contact, etc.), the more your safety rating will increase. If you get to a 3.0 SR, your license will be promoted at the start of the next season (seasons are 13 weeks long), but if you get to a 4.0 you'll get an instant license promotion. If you drop below a 2.0, you get a license demotion at the start of the next season, or if you hit a 1.0 you get an instant license demotion (nowhere lower to go than Rookies, and once you're in D class you can't be demoted to Rookies, but something to keep in mind as you climb the ranks). When you hit a full number (2.0, 3.0, etc.), you get a .40 SR bump to avoid flip-flopping licenses too much - but this works both ways: .40 bump up when you go from 2.9 to 3.0, and a .40 bump DOWN when you go from 3.0 to 2.9. Also be careful, the higher your SR, the easier it is to lose SR! The higher your license class, the more cars you'll be able to race! I highly recommend the Skip Barber cars in D class - some of the most fun cars on the service, super slidey! The Ferrari GT3 is a good purchase too though, as you can use it in higher class races as well. iRating is invisible to you during Rookies - you start at either 1200 or 1300 I believe, but you won't see your actual iRating until you reach D Class. You were correct, your split is determined by your iRating! Say a single split has 20 cars. The registered drivers with the top 20 iRatings will be in "top split," or the highest split, then the next 20 highest will be in the next split, and so on. Full skill-based matchmaking. iRating doesn't really matter, but it's a fun thing to try to grind and improve! I recommend trying some other disciplines as well. Oval may seem boring cause it's just left turns, but it's lots of super close, door-to-door racing, and almost a completely different skillset! Dirt oval and dirt road are fun to dabble in as well, but might as well take full advantage of the service. Happy to help with any more info you need!
@shakendrake
@shakendrake 2 жыл бұрын
Couple other notes: - your tire life/temp black box is NOT live! It only resets once you're in the pits. - in Rookies and some D-class races, you get 1 "quick repair," which resets all your car damage. In these short races, I would recommend deselecting your gas refill and tire change before coming into the pits. That way, you can just go into your pit, stop, instantly repair, and get back on track without having to wait the full 30 seconds or so! - yes, tracks are set weekly for each series! You can find the schedule online, tracks change at 12a GMT on Tuesdays - I recommend racing with the "Relative" black box on, so you can know where cars are around you. Specifically nice for avoiding pulling back onto track right in front of someone, or knowing if the car behind you is for position or the leaders (red = lap(s) ahead of you, blue = lap(s) behind you) - blue/yellow flag is the same as the solid blue flag - take advantage of the "protest" system for guys intentional wrecking and things. Looks like the dude who took you out might have been the guy who hit you when you spun before, so was probably salty and want revenge. There's some good videos out there outlining how to file a protest properly, but iRacing looks very poorly on intentional wrecking

Hi, I strongly advise that you keep F3 displayed for the most part during your race, keeping an eye on where others are around you; tyre temps or tyre wear aren’t really things to worry about outside endurance events. F3 can alert you to faster cars approaching and is very helpful if you spin, by helping you to see if other cars are approaching as you rejoin.
@Pokeyy
@Pokeyy Жыл бұрын
The tyre info doesn’t update unless you pit anyways. The only way to get live tyre temps and pressures is through the dash, if the car allows it/has it irl. It simulates the way you’d check tyre temps/pressure/status irl, by taking temps on the tyre in the pits, or when taking them off. Very few cars have live tyre readings.

Hi, seasoned iRacer here There's a few things that came to mind in terms of tips for more enjoyment and better driving. One very important tip I always give new iRacers is to use the Relative black box by pressing F3 which shows you the gaps in front and behind so you always know when there's a car approaching. This will be very handy whenever you find yourself in a crash and want to rejoin the onto the racetrack. Another tip I have is to use an FOV calculator to put your field of view to the correct value which will make driving feel more natural. Looking forward to see your progress!
@MrGlockshna
@MrGlockshna 2 жыл бұрын
Couple things, 1. Make sure your FOV is set appropriately if it's not already. Google around for an FOV calculator. There's plenty of resources out there. 2. I'd recommend installing crew chief for iRacing and disable the built in spotter. Crew chief looks intimidating to set up at first but spend 25 minutes looking through it and setting it up, then it's set it and forget it. Miles better than the built in spotter, and it has voice commands for things like asking if you have damage and so on. You can also set it to give you periodic reports on other drivers around you, and tell you what corners you're strong in and what corners you're weak in compared to the field/leaders. That's just the start. Play around with it and you won't regret it. 3. Your goal in rookies should be to survive the races with as few incidents as possible so you can move out of rookie races. You can still drive the same car, but once you're out of rookies you'll be matched with people of similar skill and the quality of racing drastically increases. Good luck and have fun!

"In iRacing, Blue Flag (with yellow diagonal stripe) behaves a little bit differently than in the real world. The flag in the sim is just there to tell you that there is a faster car approaching behind you. Drivers are not obligated to obey the blue flag but are obligated to hold their racing line and should take notice of it and let the faster car pass by safely and cleanly."

Its actually the same in real life too... only in series like F1 do they require the slower car to move aside, in many other real life major series you dont have to. Like Nascar or endurance, same mistakes occur there aswell as on iRacing where people do unexpected things and end up crashing the faster car. :D

Would 100% recommend getting a cheap round wheel, the dirt rally one is great for stuff like the mazda's, so much easier to catch little moments with it and you can let go and catch it easier without risking your hand. Biggest thing with iracing to get licenses fast is just have super clean races. doesn't matter if you come last, if you're on 0x at the end of a long race you'll get license upgrades quicker :).

Just try and enjoy it. Don't trust anyone (it's a shame) lapped drivers will try and race you, sometimes spoiling good battles. Fast driver's sometimes don't qualify and start at the back so they can do the last to first thing. Ratings take a while to amass(e.g 0.2 for clean races, while if you get bumped into a few times you can lose a large amount. Have fun 👍🏁🏁. Also, the dirty driving doesn't stop at rookies it's a the way up to a class and there is no point in defending your position because they'll take you out anyway, then they'll hit the sorry button or blame "net code". Better to let them past and get a position lower than finish in the gravel. I'm all for good, hard, fair, pressure racing but not many are. Sorry for the gripes, I hope you enjoy your experience ✌️🏁🏁

1: Setup your wheel and pedals correctly. Use the recommended fanatec setting that you can easily find via google. Enable linear mode for DD wheel. If you have load cell brake set force factor to 0.0. 2: Install "Crew Chief" application and disable in-game spotter. 3: When you are on the grid before the race starts hit F4 to disable refueling. Then hit F6 to disable tire change. You don't need those in the short rookie races. Finally hit F3 to show the relative box, which gives you info on relatives to the nearest 6 cars. 4: In rookies, drive slow and safe. It's mayhem down there since everybody thinks they are pros. It'll be better in the upper classes. 5: Race more than practice. Learn the track in practice and learn to race in races. Racing is much more fun!

On the right side of your screen you had the tyre info indicator open. If you switch between the buttons F1 to F9 you can change to different type of info you can get. F1 does show you some general information about the session (your last lap time, driver ahead and behind, laps or time to go, your incident points, ...). The other info screens from F2 to F9 can show you the relative, fastest laps, in-car adjustments (like brake bias), pit stop adjustments (like tyre change, re-fuel amount), ... I would recommend switching through these during a race, especially if you need to do a stop. I always found the first screen most important, if you don't uns a third party overlay, but the relative is also very important. Then in this race you did a stop and you did re-fuel and change tyres. You can switch that off in the pit adjustments. Also the rookie races and d-class races have 1 fast repair stop available, where you get your damage repaired instandly, normally that could take up to 30 minutes. Lastly in rookie races you don't have to matter about your position. Just keep the ...x as low as possible to get out of rookie class as possible. A minor contact gives you a 0x, an off-track is a 1x, sometimes a chain reaction of small contacts can give you a 2x and lastly a bigger contact gives you a 4x. In rookie races you get DSQ'ed at 17x

Hey JD, usually u have one free repair in rookie. This means u dont have to wait. It took u so longt in the pits because the crew changed ur tyres. If u buind some buttons for ur blackbox (its like the MFD in F1) u can switch off the tyre change (and refuel). Like many other people said: u shouldnt focus on ur placement in the race, but to race as clean as possible.

Just a couple of things to make rookies a little easier. 1. Use the Relative black box (F3) to show where cars are around you and also if there is a car coming when re-entering the track. One of the biggest mistakes people make is panicking to get back on track and they pull on infront of someone and ruin both of your races. 2. When you do crash (everyone does) you will get a "fast repair". While on the grid go through you black boxes and uncheck fuel and tyres (F4 and F5 from memory). In this race you were in the pits for 30sec because the tyres were changed and they fill your tank. You don't need that. 3. Getting out of rookies is all about clean races and not placing well. You'll get out of rookies quicker at the back of the field with no incident points than at the front and averaging 10 or more incidents per race.

Glad to see you on iRacing! A few thoughts - 1. Personally I didn’t enjoy the Mazda in rookies; Formula Vee was much more fun for me, and it was a quick trip out of rookies with it. You might give it a shot and see which car you like better. 2. As others have mentioned, the black box (which showed “tire info” in the video) can be switched to other things; you can map a button to switch it. Most people set it on “relative” during the race, and also switch it to the fuel and tire change boxes when going to the pits. 3. Consider installing Racelab so you can have some overlays for, say, standings and relative times. You might not need them when racing, but it’s nice for viewers. 4. When you see people in a race intentionally wrecking people (seemed like there were two in your vid), save a replay and protest them. They’ll get anything from a warning to a suspension, and it’s important for the community that people report these things. 5. The box you had up during qualifying that showed sector times- you can switch modes in there to compare vs all time best, or session best, so you can see deltas as you drive vs whichever you want to see. You can map a button to switch modes there also - I think it’s tab by default. Can’t wait to see more! 🎉

Look at the FoV calculator in the options tab in the graphics section, once you sort that you will be good When you pit in rookie you should turn off change tires & fuel, you don’t need tires or fuel, that’s just wasted time, you will find that in your pit section of the black box you also get one instant free repair but you need to check that box in your black box, map buttons on your wheel to scroll left and right on the black box and navigate to Pit, and map buttons to make changes The best advice for setting the game up will come by watching ones who did it already such as Dan Suzuki, Dave Cam or Samsoid

hey good to see you on iracing. don't listen to others saying you need to farm SR in rookies. I raced out of them right away by actually racing. You know how to race in a pack you'll be alright, that advice is good for actual rookies, but if you want to progress and learn to race in a pack cleanly racing that way is actually hurting yourself in my opinion at least. See ya in F4/F3. I haven't touch f1 22 since the day I downloaded iracing. Set up the profiles on fanalabs if you haven't. They really do make the FFB that much better from car to car. Also look into the racelabs overlays. You get a lot of great information from them once you set it up, running order, lap times, delta to other cars and track map if you want. very useful.

You can save a lot of time in the pits when you are forced to get repairs by unchecking tires and fuel in the black box at the start of the race. There's no need to take tires or fuel in any Rookie class races. Great video!!

I love this circuit. The last corner is slow in, fast out. If you try to carry too much speed, you're slow down the straight.

Biggest tip I can give that improved my driving and racing is the correct FOV and either triples or VR. I prefer triples but those two things are a must if you asked me.

1) Maybe turn down the FFB or tweak it a bit to keep from breaking your wrist :) 2) When driving Mazda's, you have quick repairs, which gets you back out on track. However, make sure you tick off fuel and tyres, otherwise you will have a really heavy car and spend way too long in the pits (even with your damage, the pit stop would have been immediate without those ticked on) 3) Please put on the relative so you can see incoming traffic, especially when trying to rejoin. 4) You can save clips of a race and report. Whatever blue did at the end was definitely reportable. I rarely report, but with stuff like that, it helps keep the racing a little cleaner. Better to have a rookie learn now that head hunting is not appropriate than later. Great to see you on the service. It's definitely a blast.

On Iracing, there is safety rating (SR) and Irating (IR). Your safety rating (SR) is affected by how many X's you get in a race. You get 1x for going off-track, 2x for spinning and 4x for contact with another driver. Your main goal to earn new licenses is to finish races with as low X's as possible. Once you start earning Irating (IR), it will go up or down depending on your finishing position. The higher your irating (IR) is, the stronger the other drivers will be. Think of it as skilled based matchmaking. =D

As mentioned, use the F3 relative for awareness on track. You mentioned a guy taking other cars out. Please protest him if you think it deliberate. The car that took you out at the end also looks like it could have been a deliberate action. Study the replay from the other drivers view and decide. You do not have to be directly involved to protest a driver. I have known a driver spectating in the session to do so before. Concentrate on having incident free races to improve your safety rating and progress out of rookies. I have been in Iracing for over 12 years now and still absolutely Love it. It is frustrating at times but as you progress and drive against better drivers it can be extremely intense and rewarding.

A few tips, -Always have the relative black box open on the bottom right, it shows lapped and car a lap ahead of you and generally give you more situational awareness -Try to get out of rookie asap, it's a idiot test not a skill test quoted by another KZbinr -Also unlike F122, you don't have to be either on the throttle or brakes at all times, you can let the car coast around corners and then get on the throttle hard

I would also recommend using irFFB for a better force feedback experience! Also just keep climbing that ladder and eventually try the LMP2's in IMSA or ESS. That is right up your alley!!!

Avoid the sausage curb in fosters hitting it unsettles the car and you lose time. You want to turn in later ideally just missing the curb and back on the power as early as possible. Using the momentum to rotate the rear of the car then you are flat out until Druids. Taking T1 as wide as you can turning in later clipping the apex getting on the power early sets up the lap, then getting a good exit as above out of fosters are the most important parts of this circuit layout.

Turn on the Relative black box window, so you know who's around you. For the ffb to be less dangerous to your hand, change max force to something around 35-40Nm.

Three things, you should keep the relative on instead of tire state, you wont be needing that in this series! Also you want to go down to first gear for a few corners. And press tab on your keyboard to have the delta on and see where you lose time compared to your best lap. Enjoy the journey, been playing iracing for years, around 2500 iratinf

In short races you don't need to take tires. So if you are being towed into the pits you should switch to your pitstop screen -- F7 -- and uncheck the option to replace tires. That will make your stops much faster if the race includes quick repairs.

Give the sporting code a read. It’s fairly quick and it helps everybody’s experience. Also map black box controls in your options menu. The relative is very important for your situational awareness. Having your tires up does you no good because it doesn’t update live. Only once you pit. And most people suggest just staying out of other people’s way to get out of rookies. While that is the strategy a lot take, it isn’t really the intent of the rookie license. Run hard. Get used to racing around other drivers and the consequences and advantages of attacking/defending and safety rating and irating gains will follow.

Love the video brother. The mazda is a throw it in and let it stick kinda car. Feels kinda weird to drive it fast but its great fun. However I would follow what others are saying down in the comments. Focus on clean races over winning in rookies. Half of the people in rookies treat it like forza and are willing to use you as a brake. Get out of rookies and enjoy whichever series you choose from there. I would Personally suggest the IR-04s of the GT4s.

Rookies is all about gaining SR, once you get D class you can then go Into F4 then F3 , LMP2 and eventually into F1. I left the F1 games and no race F1 in iracing and it's best racing I've ever had. Nothing beats the online completion of iracing. I would recommend getting racelabs overlays and maybe VRS for tutorials and setups. Have fun mate, iracing is next level

Welcome to a real racing simulator. Mind that the Mazda has pit speed limiter, just bind a button on the wheel to it. Also, you got your tires changed and fuel filled when you stopped after the accident. Mind to disable that from the blackbox (you have it all the race in "Tire Info" which it doesn't get updated in real time, only when you go into the pits), you should bind also a button to change the blackbox and also to move next or previous and the action button, which will allow you to disable the tire change and also for the crew to not put in more fuel. Meanwhile you're in rookie license, don't worry about iRating it is not affected. But you'll need to avoid accidents and losses of control with grass if you want to little by little gain safety rating that will allow you to move to a different license. There are a few rules in terms of how to advanced or lose licenses, check them out.

Regarding safety rating. When you are in a purely practice session before joining a race server safety rating is not impacted. Once you are in a race session, practice / quali / race all impact your SR. Once you have over 3.0 SR you're promoted to D class license. After that you can be promoted one of two ways. 1.) Do 4 races that require your current license and get your SR over 4.0 for immediate promotion. 2.) Do 4 races that require your license and finish the season with over 3.0 rating to be promoted once the new season starts.

Be careful to not get any incident points after you click the green race button. Even in the short 2 minute practice if you get any incident points it will deduct your SR. I tanked my iRacing to get safety rating to race in the W12 and it was a good decision. Got to race to w12 and my iRacing is about 2000 now

Bottom right of the screen is the black box, which is basically your mfd. In the rookie races, it's worth setting the fuel amount for your pit stop to 0 as well as u checking the, 'replace tyres,' check box'. In your replay, you see your car rock right and left, that's your tyres getting changed. Point is, unnecessary time in the pits onto of your repair time. Ooo, don't forget to map a button for your pit limiter.
