@Nighthawk_r332 жыл бұрын
My dream car is the R33 Skyline. Owned mine for just over a year and since I learned quite a bit about it I will say it's a joy to drive and it does get it's fair share of attention. However the unfortunate reality is owning these cars are not all sunshine and rainbows and the reason is because it's going to take time and money to make it more reliable. If you ever buy a JDM with any RB engine you better keep an eye on your timing belt as these are interference type engines. And please for the love of God don't buy one unless you have the funds and time to put into it. Last thing you want is a car just sitting around and doing nothing to it. It's frustrating but chances are you may need to replace the timing kit including water pump, oiling system and adding a head drain adapter with a return line and recommend running it down to the pan or the sump, head restrictors to limit the flow of oil getting sucked up into the head (common issue with RBs), crank and cam seals, extended crank collar, and upgrade to a better oil pump like the N1. In order to do all of this you will need to pull out your whole engine which is exactly what I am going to do next year. A diy will take about 4 months and better to do it yourself than spend $1,000s of dollars on professionals to do it as long as you have a friend or know someone who knows exactly what they are doing. This kind of build is for bone stock reliability and it's highly recommended to do that first before upgrading the engine with aftermarket modifications for more power.
@der1vative983 Жыл бұрын
Well said! I imported an Evo 6 and it was Auction Grade 4 interior B bone stock. Even with low mileage they are older cars. Expect stuff to break and having the car on the sideline for a while if you are money constrained. Another big cost is the parts. If you want OEM parts you need to buy them from Japan which takes 1-2 weeks and then you have to deal with shipping fees and your countries import tax. If you are importing a JDM car here are the first things I did that made my car run like a gem, 1. Full timing as stated above (Water Pump, Serpentine belt, tensioner pulley, etc) 2. Do all the fluids in the car (Oil, Brake fluid, Transmission fluid, Diff fluid, in evo's make sure the AYC puck gets new fluid) 3. Rubber. Replace all the important rubber bits. Strut Tops, Bushings, Seals, Check rubber on suspension. 4. Get an underbody restoration or if you can't afford one at least seal it with an oil based spray like WaxOyl. (90s JDM cars love to rust) 5. Battery. Most battery's on JDM cars are original and only hold a charge for 3-4 days. If you can get all that done most 90s JDM cars will run like a charm, however the most important thing in the first place is to get a good car. Make sure you do your research and get it inspected before buying it! Good Luck and enjoy the sunshine and rainbows!

@Olavo Fernandes mid night was was of the most famous car clubs in japan, have you heard of midnight club the game? Or wonder why the wangan is referenced so much when it comes to street racing and jdm cars? It's important to the history, just as much as Dk is. But it's a lot easier to look for the dozens of documentaries than to ask a stranger why, the internet is a great place to learn new things. & because if you consider a rx7 which was $63,300 (adjusted for inflation) before tax "mid tier" then I'm happy you're doing well financially. The nsx is known for its handling, was 60k more, but couldn't outrun the rx7. Do I need to explain further?

This video does indeed miss out a lot of details. JDM as we know it really traces its roots back to late 1960s to early 1970s with cars like the Honda S500, Toyota 2000GT and Crown, Nissan Skyline GTR KPGC10 and Fairlady Z, Datsun Bluebird and Mazda RX-3. There are arguably more important figures in the JDM scene but except for the 1990s tuner houses a lot of their identities are so obscure and not much information on them can be found in English language. The PS1 and PS2 era saw a slew of games focused on actual Japanese Street Racing, namely Shutokou Battle (Later imported to Western markets as Tokyo Xtreme Racer), Kaidou Battle (Known as TXR Drift in Western markets), Touge series, Battle Gear (Formerly Side By Side), Option Tuning Car Battle, Racing Lagoon, Wangan Midnight R(Pre-MaxiTune game based on Shutokou Battle). All of these are arguably more realistic than any Need For Speed game has ever come to JDM culture since Need For Speed is literally just based on glorified Hollywood movies. Initial D Arcade Stage and Wangan MaxiTune series are well known enough, I suppose. A side note, eurobeat was considered mainstream EDM in late 1990s, Wikipedia has a pretty accurate summary of it's influences and how it became popular so I will leave it at that. It was not generally associated with racing prior to Initial D's first release and in fact, the go to car music genre back then was rock and roll which is why you will find a lot of rock music in Japanese street racing movies from 1980s and 1990s.

@iambryan1234 Жыл бұрын
@@olavofernandes7286 ????????????????????????????????????? Those games are literally about Japanese street racing in 1990s. Later iterations like Battle Gear 4 added a few USDM vehicles. What the heck are you on about? Gran Turismo never pretended to be a so-called 'JDM' game and was purely about track racing even to this day. JDM literally just means Japanese Domestic Market, but in the current English language context its pretty much used to refer to cars and street racing culture in Japan between 1970s to 1990s. Option Tuning is literally about driving Japanese vehicles tuned by well-known JA tuners on JA race tracks like what you would see in their typical videos produced by K1. If by oddball cars you are referring to K-cars, Racing Lagoon literally has an entire segment dedicated to them racing around tight narrow side alleys. Touge 2 and Touge Max G has an abundance of K-cars for you to choose from, some of which are not even in GT2. Touge Max G also has an entire segment dedicated to Gymkhana which was very popular in Japan during that period and still is to this day. Have you even played a single racing game developed by JA devs other than Wangan Midnight and Initial D?

Great video, I just wanted to correct one thing in the start: The Japanese economy was great in the *80s*, and was terrible in the 90s. What happened was car companies started development on all these super cool cars in the 80s expecting a lot of wealthy young buyers. But come around to when those developing cars could finally be released. Well, the bubble burst and the terrible 90s kicked in. Few are employed, even fewer are making bank, no one could buy those legends. It's why so many of the cool 90s JDM cars had such short lifespans. Which is why the AE86, which was around since the 80s was such a legend. Working class guys could buy it new in the 80s, and the same now poorer working class guys could buy it used in the 90s and participate with the rich guys in the car scene.

I have a great tip for anyone, don’t listen to the people that call u shit for loving the top tier most well known jdm cars like the r34 or the supra, they are all just too full of themselves and are what make our community toxic, love whatever cars you wanna love don’t feel pressured to look into the history of every single jdm fact just because some dick online thinks he seems cool by being diFfEreNt and bullying people for liking certain cars. Me personally, I have favourites from every type of car you can imagine, I’m 21 and have loved jdm cars since I was 4 when I took a ride in my aunties subie and fell in love. I like to think I have a great knowledge of jdm cars (I do) and I like whatever I wanna like, I love the mk4 supra, I get shit for liking that car all the time and if you ever get shit for liking a certain car just ignore it, the jdm fan base has a lot of tryhards, like people that compete just to seem like they know the most. My main advice here is just basically fuck the haters, don’t let others influence your love for any cars, and just enjoy it for what it is, ignore other peoples opinion, in my eyes you could have a thousand amc pacer posters on your wall and I won’t judge because only true fans know that a specific persons love for a car shouldn’t have to be proven to any ass that thinks they’re better than you! Have a great day guys, and I hope you all have many years of loving cars.

additional great cars from japan that can't be ignored: nissan silvia/s platform s13 s14 s15, 180sx/240sx infiniti g cars (jdm skylines post-r34, essentially same platform and engine as the z) toyota celica, awd and fwd platforms lexus is platforms toyota vip cars (chaser, crown...) mazda rx7, rotary engine' and not forgetting the new mark v gr supra and gr corolla (some of these aren't strictly jdm cars, same goes for some in the video. as long as they're not exclusively for the japanese domestic market)
@bulleto8192 Жыл бұрын
Don't think anyone ignores those since they are the most generic list

im daydreaming of owning a jdm car in the future, but I don't know how to drive manual transmission, ofcourse i dont have budget aswell haha, but ive immersed myself lately on these cars, from watching initial d to vlogs and also...collecting diecast cars!!!! i recommend collecting diecast cars instead for broke boys like me, i would stare at the car for hours while watching vlogs and its very satisfying!!

For video games as mentioned the old NFS games are great due to it's customization freedom, makes you feel like a tuner, but I also recommend NFS Heat since it's like Most Wanted. Gran Turismo if you wanna feel like a proper racing driver. Forza games are good too.
@class_shift2 жыл бұрын
I agree 💯💯 Ive been addicted to Forza lately, awesome game
@1nterzept6612 жыл бұрын
@@class_shift It also has a wide selection of cars from JDM, American muscle to European exotics. And great amount of tuning posibilities. Also the open world gameplay.

I would recommend Kaido Battle: Touge no Densetsu/Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 (ps2 only) for video games as it has a very wide selection of jdms n racing in mountain passes

Kaido Battle: Touge no Densetsu/Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 is also a great jdm game, where u race with rivals in different mountain passes, much like initial d however it's a ps2 game not a pc game so u may need an emulator

I want an AE86 so bad, but don't have the cash for that. I did get a brand new Gr86 a couple weeks ago though, and it's a great car. Like you said, it's a fancy car for a cheap price, so allows a poor kid like me to feel like a trackstar lmao

80's jdm is a fun era, we had the AE86, the first gen mr2 that eventually got supercharged, FB & FC rx-7's, mkII & MKIII supras, we had the beginning of the turbocharged Z cars (130 & Z31), cressidas, maximas...ect its the beginning of the golden era and most cars are still cheap besides the AE & FC

Not really 60s where golden jdm era like cars such as mazda cosmo, Toyota sport 800, Honda s800, mazda rx2, mazda rx3, Isuzu belette 1600 gtr, Nissan Skyline GTR hakosaka, Nissan bluebird coupe etc

@@olavofernandes7286 Idk mad there were a few good cars that got the ball started but I feel like the ball began rolling in the 70's with the huge availability of the nissan s30 & the sporty toyotas & Mazdas but I feel like the late 70's and forsure by 1980 all japanese manufacturers began really selling sports cars didn't matter if it was the Datsun turbo 280zx, the FB RX-7, or toyotas supra or celica everyone got in on sporty cars Mitsubishi had the sterion the infamous AE86 was selling, Datsun became nissan and released the Z31 turbo ditching the L28 inline 6 for the first version of the VG, and also created the RB alongside its V6 brother, Mazda eventually turbocharged the 13B in the FC, and the 7mGTE was made aka predecessor of the 2jz it was really an exciting era to have a Japanese sports car
