I like the added features of this particular build, but overall in this video it sounds muffled and muddy with little top end clarity or crispness. Is this just the way the video was recorded, or in person does this pedal actually offer plenty of top end range and snappiness?

@@montag4516 There's lots of variation in sound quality/eq between demos...it's basically cloned with a few extra defeatible features so I'd say likely it's the demo. There's the standard Elektrika (demo'd here)and the limited edition Elektrika - which Joe described as "having a more mid-focused grit to it, a bit more rude & raunchy, whereas the standard model sounds more "hi-fi" and even across the sound spectrum." which he attributes to the only difference being the NOS OC75 transistors used. I ordered the limited edition with OC75s which, can't wait.

Great pedal Joe, great features. Could your pedal produce some "biting" attacking single note solos like Zeps heartbreaker. Or 'bring it in home' riff sounds? Thinking an mki was used to help produce these tones? Awesome job sir

Sorry about the really late reply! I think by Zep 2, they were onto the MK2 Tonebender.... a bit of a different beast :) Check out our Tonemaster pedal for that one! cheers joe

Joe I just got one of these and I wanted to thank you for making such a fantastic MK1 Tone Bender! The gate knob makes this a hugely versatile version of this circuit! You’ve made my endless search for certain Page and Ronson tones seem like I’ve finally found them. I doubt I’ll ever need a Macaris now and I’ll probably make a demo video of it soon (yes I’ll come back and add a link also). I’ll definitely be looking at more JDM Pedals. Speaking of which, I have a question for you... I see you’ve put out a limited special edition of the Elektrika in Gold. How would you say it compares tone-wise to this one that I already enjoy?

Thanks David, so glad you dig it! This video is a few years old, so if you'd post some of your impressions as a video that would be fantastic! The Elektrika Limited OC75 Edition is made with three black glass Valvo OC 75 transistors, which are both hard to get and have a unique response to them. There is a video in the works from GearMannDude which I hope will be up soon :0) I'd describe it as having a more mid-focused grit to it, a bit more rude & raunchy, whereas the standard model sounds more "hi-fi" and even across the sound spectrum. We've got to get set up for video again, and then a side-by-side comparison would be perfect. cheers, joe

@@yaki_font Check the forums for some opinions, too. They're really well loved, I am pleased to say :0) For 2022, we'll be making them with the MK1/Zonk switch on the top, where the LED is now, and the LED below that. We're also well stocked up on the right transistors, and they're sounding great as ever ;0)

Got the OC75 edition (said to have little more more mids, little more raucous). Ok,being my first mk1 I don't know what it's "supposed" to sound like.If used to your 2 transistor fuzzface/mk 1.5 type fuzzes this is a different creature. In mk1 mode this one has a similar rounded-in-the-lows response like a mk 1.5.However - this one almost sounds like two independent clipping/parallel transistors tho it isn't.What I mean is imagine it *is* two fuzzes in parallel.Fuzz A has a really compressed smooth quality with many notes(mostly lower - mid notes) shrinking and browning when you smash them only to bloom in volume and highs on the decay.Fuzz B is stuttery all the time no matter the position of the bias knob.(bias knob only capable of removing *much* of the gated effect, like fuz B being made gated or not gated)Now smash these two qualities together and that's this pedal. It is both smooth and volatile seemingly from two sources. cont...what's really cool is how (with my guitar's volume pot on 10) it squashes and blooms a lot, roll the volume pot back to 8 or so and it remains pretty overdriven *but* the attack is more punchy and less compressed.A tweek of the knob makes it sound like two different fuzz pedals. This thing does not clean up like my mk1.5 or FF (mk 1.5 cleans up FULLY without volume loss) rather it incrementally becomes less overdriven. But again,a useful little quirk in the dynamic response, and again the fuzz dynamics are very sensitive to changes in the guitar's volume pot. The Zonk mode has less lows but is not too thin,it cuts well. The tone control is a very nice addition btw,it shaves mostly the high-highs so it's friendly with many amps and amp settings.Having less lows it does not squash-and-bloom on the attack like the mk1 option. It cuts better and is a bit more punchy and straight forward. Both the Zonk and Mk1 settings have a slight treble sharpness to the pick attack. The upside is that even with it squashing and morphing all over the place you can still discern the separation of picked notes when you play fast runs.My mk1.5 blurs the notes pretty badly. I can't speak to the the standard Elektrika but it's the same circuit just with different transistors.Hope that helped.

Yes... tough choice... The Tonemaster does a great MK2 sound, with the added "Bias" flexibility. The added boost can make it do wild sh*t. But if you love the "rasp" and bite of the Mk1, the Elektrika is the way to go.
