My most favorite Type R. It inherited the true characteristics and aesthetics of the JDM Type R. It is the most powerful and balanced version of the Type R from the engine and drive train to the look and body style. It also manages to combine family car and sports car without going over the top. In conclusion, it sucks so bad that it’s not legal in the US. Great video.

Fun fact: Malaysia is the 2nd and the only market outside Japan to officially import FD2 Type R and able to buy purchase in selected Honda dealers (from 2007-2011) in both pre facelift and facelift model, and we only get one spec finished in Championship White. Talk about exclusivity huh. And also back then local used car dealer also importing alot of FD2R from Japan unofficially via ap license.

This car is a legend. I do not know why some people hated it. Especially people in Europe. This car has so much crazy engineering in it, it is almost a steal when it first came out. Most complain it is 4 doors. Thats was a lame excuse. They could accept a high performance sedan like AMG Merc & BMW M cars. But not a high performance 4 door Civic. Its really crazy. In Malaysia this car is a scary opposition to the Evo's and even Megane RS 250 of that time in track days and..... ahem street..... ahem.... . It still retains is high value & desirability even today.

As a product planner for Honda Malaysia I attended model clinics in Thailand. We asked for the rear to be similar to the Accord Euro R (CL7). I remember the clinic car wheels being SSR GT1s, and the steering was originally VERY Playstation-ish but some of the older bosses wanted it toned down a bit. I think the success of the 4-door 7th Gen Civic Sedan fitted with a Mugen Type R K20 which won at Sepang Circuit MAY have convinced Honda Motor Co. to go with a 4dr CTR for Japan and export markets.

It's interesting that the Japanese market seem to prefer their cars much more hardcore than the rest of the world. I have heard that even today the FD2 is still the best balanced and well configured of the Type R's. I have an FK8 and it's very well balanced, much better front and rear grip than the FK2. It does suffer a bit from the weight but even so it's one of the fastest hatches on the road. Cup 2 tires fit it much better for cornering. It makes handling even better and more dynamic.

Hye bro'✌🏼😎 Thanks for this beautiful piece of art, and this interesting review.👍🏼 I do own a FN2 in France 🇨🇵 White Champ model, with 19" Rages optional rims.😍 Only mod is Tein Suspension. I can say it's a very good sport car. I know, far from it's sister FD2.🙄 If you guys can find a EuroR in Japan, please please select a White Champ model with the Torsen otherwise, the feedback of the car will be corrupted.🤕 The reason why the FN2 was so hated back days, instead of the weight, is the lack of horse power AND the lack of torsen. So if you review one With the torsen, it's a complete different car.🤔👍🏼 It would be interesting also to review the newest ones, like the FK2 and FK8.💪🏼 Why not gather all the CTR family in on single video, EK9/EP/FD-FN/FK2/FK8🤘🏼 Thanks for this work and dealing passion around the world.🙏🏼🇯🇵 Please keep working. 🙏🏼 Arigato Gosai Masu Merci from France 🇨🇵
