Wanted to say thank you for introducing me to the cnc plasma community. I built this table last year and enjoyed every part of it. The insight of how everything works is worth the cost alone. I have learned so much- actually just broke this machine down and built a second bigger one. I am in the process of laser cutting a plasma torch holder out of acrylic for it now. Props to y’all for continually updating your design. Much love from Texas! ❤

Just defended thesis successfully for MS EE! For grant fulfillment of the MBRACE project, we too moved from an Arduino (Nano) to an ESP32. There is simply so much more connectivity I/O and communication wise that it was a no-brainer. In addition, the DIY community is also making the transition which has so many benefits now and for the future. One thing is that the Arduino microntroller prototype boards also have breakout-boards similar to that of the ESP32 for a small cost. Remember, these are prototype boards with what most folks will need to get started. At the end of our journey, we will create a custom board that the students will stuff. Maybe your son could create such a custom board or daughter-card to make the process easier or facilitate a plug and play turn-key option. Thanks, and keep up the revisions and great service to the community.
@DeagleBingo3 ай бұрын
i think this is cool seeing mulitple open source type projects moving to the esp32, congrats on your MS btw. plus the v1 engineering stuff (mpcnc and lowrider cnc) is all running on ryan's jackpot now(esp32 based)... so if a lot of the DIY folks are all running the same Sh!t then this will get way easier and cross compatible. PPL can build whichever flavor they want (JD or V1e) depending on what works for you at the time... i bought the stuff for a lowrider and built one and i'm buying the plans from JD right now... so i don't think its competitive as much as it is collaborative at this point and i'd like to think everyone agrees about this.. in a similar way to how ppl have done open source with 3dPrinting but i'm sure there are a few who don't. one thing i know is that we are probably all better off working together than we are separate. everyone stands to gain a lot from being able to afford the tools they need to bootstrap their own business.

The ol' girl didn't go any faster with shinny wheels but she sure looked good getting there! I'll be upgrading to the ESP32 Controller as soon as I get the THC working. $25 for the upgrade to V2.0 is a bargain with all the information that comes with it. I have added cooling fans to my control panel with a carbon filtered intake and color coded name plates for the aviation connectors. Still doesn't go any faster but looks really cool and it's easier to get the cables connected properly

So i was hoping to get the enclosure and electronics built and ready THEN i can build the frame in the garage. But, i'm a newb into all of this and had no point of reference for the enclosure for wire length and so on. I needed to build the frame first, then i know how long i need to make things and mount things. The enclosure update is the one i needed the most and this is exciting. I literally have all the parts, just need cooler weather to work lol but now, i can do it two stages!

Amazing product, can't wait to start building mine. As for the updates in speeds I think it has something to do with how the G code is computed. We used a lot of arduinos in school and they are finicky beasts. But I've seen where people have added raspberry pies to their 3d printers and it uncorks the printer a little bit since the computing is split up between the pie and the onboard board.

I understand the need to jump to a new plan. I recently bought the old plan and haven't built it yet. I don't mind dropping another 25 bucks for the new and improved plans. As noted by others, it's still dirt cheap for what you are getting. Having said that.......what if I buy the upgraded plans and next week JD's Garage publishes the plans for the new 4x8 table????? Will there be an upgrade price? Will that plan cost $25 also? I am guessing that will be a new product and I will again have no problem spending another 25 bucks. If the plans for the big table are more like 50 bucks, it would be nice to have an upgrade path for $25. Either way, *I'm in!*

The ESP32 is a great micro controller. Be aware there are serval different incarnations of the ESP32 which makes things confusing. I'm assuming the ones you're using are based on the Xtensa microcontroller (ESP32-WROOM-32, ESP32-S2, and ESP32-S3 should all Xtensa microcontroller). There are also versions of the ESP32 with RISCV based microcontrollers. I'm assuming these are to be avoided for this project. Also, the board that you referenced a screw terminal breakout board and not a hat. Instead of the Uno, you could have used an Arduino Nano with a screw terminal block, but the ESP32 is better for sure. Once I get some projects off the table, I'm definitely going to get the plans for this CNC table. I have a PrimeWeld CUT60 plasma cutter that I need to put to use. For the 3D printed parts, my son has a Bambu that prints great!
