The dac heat issue isn't really a problem I was really concerned about it when I first bought the original atom stack but jds labs support said it was normal to run that hot and I've had my stack a while never turning it off and I still haven't had an issue. They also sell their own cables which are sort of rigid and once you form them to the shape you want they help keep the stack from moving.

JDSlabs customer support is top notch! I use my O2 daily again now that I'm full time WFH, and needed the unit serviced after 5yrs of abuse. They were able to fix damaged output jack (at minimal cost despite being out of warranty) and get it back to me in less than a week.

I purchased Atom+ stack a month ago. With B-Stock Amp+ [Still available in there site I guess]. And it's amazing dac+amp. Z you forgot to mention Atom Amp+'s 3.5mm input (which was available in Original Atom amp too). As you mentioned Dac+ runs very hot. And for Dac+, they have switched chip from AK4490 to ES9018. Note: When you buy B-Stock Atom Amp+ it comes with Original Atom Amp Casing with the label "ATOM AMP" not the newer "AMP AMP+" labeled casing. And they claim with this new Amp they have fixed channel imbalance issue that some users noticed with the Original Atom, but if you run iem's with atom+ (I tried with Blon BL-03), it still has tiny channel imbalance in extremely low volumes even in low gain (Maybe this is far better channel balance than Original version. I haven't used original Atom stack). Dac+ may come with firmware 1.8.2. And now they have released v 1.8.9 as well. I first tried the Dac+ with wasapi & direct sound apis but noticed some pops & crackles, so I installed XMOS drivers to enable ASIO api which provided by JDS Labs for Atom Dac+ and all those issues went away.

I've just recently started to get into better audio equipment and was looking to pick up the Atom+ stack. What kind of levels can just the DAC push? I'm looking to space out my purchases and considering first picking up the DAC to power my 250Ω DT770 Pros before the amp but no sure if it'll be loud enough. From what I was able to calculate it should be able to push close to 100db at least

@夢 I never expect anything from new equipment purchases, I'm just taking an educated chance. my issue was as much as I loved the D30 it seemed to have a fatiguing veneer to the vocals I couldn't get passed after 20 mins or so. Tonally they are very similar but the atom DAC+ doesn't have that glare to the vocals. I don't have any DSD files and I've never used coaxial so the atom is a great upgrade for me, personally

Sorta wish I had held off just a few more months getting a Atom DAC+ to match my Atom Amp instead of the first Atom DAC (with different font on it?), but overall the stack gets the job done for my desktop setup. I have the original stack with dt770 pro 250's, 10-11'oclock is my happy place on high gain. I can push them as far as 3'oclock before you max the drivers out on anything with heavy bass and hear a popping/farting distortion sound. I turn down for fear of damaging the drivers, but I use to be on a sound card that claimed it could drive these cans and only when I got the stack have they ever gotten this LOUD.
@baja71688
@baja71688 3 жыл бұрын
Read your comment a little better, the dac only has "RCA Out" so I don't know how you plan to connect your headphones. They will work without an amp just fine but it'll be under powered so the bass won't be as punchy or loud as when powered. I've used my cans with my phone Note 9 and my old sound card without fault before ever getting the stack.

@@EverythingisFire Changing sources is not going to change your opinion of the sundara. The atom has plenty of power and will not change the frequency response of the sundara. The sundara simply doesn't blow anyone away at first listen. Bass isn't super impactful or high quantity, vocals are not in your face, treble isnt super high giving perceived detail. It's just extremely good all around, tuned near perfectly, extremely open, excellent instrument separation and technical performance. Basically just apply eq if you want more bass impact or just give your ears time to adjust.

If you use the SAME headphone a splitter won't hurt too much. You just would be running the Ω load in parallel so the stress on the amp changes.

10:56 Atom Amp sounds like A90 because both have flat frequency response, have no audible distortion and very low noise floor. A90 has more features and more material cost since it's bigger so that's why you pay more for it, not for sound quality. A90 also delivers more power if you need it, but for most headphones Atom Amp has plenty power to blast your ears. I have A30pro and Atom Amp and I'm using Atom as daily driver since it outputs much less heat. During summer the less heat sources the better. The Atom stack is excellent value if you are able to buy it. In EU it's hard to get hold of these for good price. Oh and equalized 560S is nice with linear amps. Also daily driver for me.

Do you have the new or former gen Atom? How does it compare to the A30 Pro soundwise? Worth 3 times the price?
@deafno
@deafno 2 жыл бұрын
@@disforia1 they sound identical. You choose good neutral amps based on features, not sound quality. Both are good neutral amps. Difference is A30 pro has differential input signal option (XLR), has more power with XLR inputs, looks more cool and has more headphone connection options. If you have source with only RCA out then the power is about same for both Atom AMP and A30pro. I have the older gen Atom.

Hey Z, I am getting into the audio game and just ordered the zen dac v2. Wanted to know how do you switch between the headphone out and the rca out to the speakers so that I can switch between headphones and speakers from time to time.
@ZReviews

The output is all the time so you would either need to lower the volume on your speakers with a separate knob or turn off powered monitors power.

@@saamo1423 I agree if you like the way it sounds. I should have been more clear. I didn't like the sound of the Zen Dac. I tried a bunch of amps, dacs, and combos last year. I know that they are very nice and everyone likes them, but I didn't like the sound of the Zen Dac at all. I tried it as a stand-alone piece and as a DAC only but I ended up returning it. Of the four budget amp/dacs I tried (Schiit stack, Geshilli, iFi, JDS) I liked the sound of the Atom stack the most.
