There's a lot of crazy stuff chesspiece can do, they're probably the most complicated fighter i've covered yet! There were a few things that I missed or probably should clarify, though: -Both players can hit additional pieces. They'll explode if either player deals the last hit, too! -Using up special will also move your reserve piece in the same manner.

the bishop and rook do because they can cross the whole board in a single move if they have the space, meaning they are quite long ranged. 2 rooks or bishops (and if a queen replaces one of them) placed in a single line to attack is literally called a battery (like an artillery battery)

@@GreenStarGalaxian For one, Pawn becoming Queen after "advancing" far enough on the "board" (using pawn attacks to fill meter). D-Strong is based on "castling," a move you can perform if both Rook and King are in their starting positions, and there are no pieces in the spaces between them. Knight having a third jump probably a reference to its ability to 'jump' over other pieces (Knight cannot be blocked). The slipperiness might be based on Knight's weird L-shaped movement. Bishop moves diagonally, so therefore dodge = good, I guess?

@@FirePhoenix242 They might as well be. Rooks are second to Queens in terms of area control in chess, with their ability to move anywhere horizontally and vertically and their castle function. It's almost criminally easy to take control of a battlefield if you have at least one rook if you play them right.

It's not down special, but down strong (equivalent to down-smash in smash bros). I see your point, though. There are other references too, like the knight's additional jump referencing how it can jump over other pieces.

Don't forget F Smash being En Passant (Pawn can move 2 spaces, but only on it's first turn) and Pawn Special being Promotion (When a Pawn gets to the end of the board it becomes a Queen)

king being the heavyweight makes sense in the context of weight being survivability in a platfighter, which means you're more likely to use king a lot more when you're on your last legs of a stock anyways
