In the film itself, both characters are rather immature at first. They grow up some. But where Shyra (Vaani) is truly moving onto a more adult/mature/serious phase of her life, Dharam (Ranveer) is still struggling to get there. I think his focus on his younger self is probably to show an introspection. He might be trying to figure out whether or not he has changed since that young man or if he is still mostly the same. He's questioning how he got to the place he is at, and why he isn't where she is mentally and emotionally. She on the other hand, is most likely watching his younger self trying to figure out the same as he is. Why he isn't in the same space as she is. She might be questioning where he/she or they went wrong.
