When they smell blood, they go on the attack. The attack comes in the form of "sabotage". If your co-worker feels threaten by you, he/she will do everything in their power to make you fail at your job. Never, never never ask, for advice on how to do something, if you don't know or understand how to do it. READ THE MANUAL!!! This will protect you from the sharks that are out to get rid of you, by giving you wrong information to your questions. A Senior Vice President, once said to me "read it for yourself, then you will know". People will always steer you down the wrong path, when they feel threaten.
