A very nostalgic and humble Jean Claude Duvalier yearning to go back to his country. This interview should hold some attention,he seemed very disconnected; from his criticism of Aristide to his plan to go back to Haiti to help rebuilt the country. I suppose that he had not grasped the reality of his situation yet.

As a proud Capois of parents, grand parents, great grand parents & forebearers who once were nobles in the court of HM King Henri Christophe, I can prove to you that you are absolutely correct about the Kingdom of North Haiti under his HM H.C. As northerners we still have the spirit of autonomy for the North. I always favor the discentralization of all the 9 departments in Haiti. Each department should have an elected governor, a departmental congress run by elected local assembly men & women.

I believe Duvalier should go back to Haiti. Once in Haiti, he should be arrested, trial for crimes against humanity. I am sure during his trial we will find out many things including the US involments into the 30 years dictatorship of him and his father so we can turn around & sue the US. Then have Duvalier's generals and ministers also trial and executed. We need to know the truth. We as a people deserve closure and an exemple for the next leader who think he or she would get away with murder.

Decentralizing the country would benefit the developments & rebuilding of the country much faster. Such will solve the overpopulating problem facing P.A.P. today. Also it would decrease the volume of corruptions which always take place in P.A.P. As you can see the entire country is paralyzed because P.A.P. is destroyed. If the country was decentralized the current government would have been able to relocate in another city temporarily. Also internal help would have been provided within Haiti.

You have some great idea! As agreed, we hope that our new leaders could implement that. The negative side is Haiti had too many idiots in the Gvernment. Their vision are very, very short. How could they have powerful thinking like yours or mine. The ones who led the country are the ones who should be our servant. Fortunately most of them have passed away during the recent tragedy, the country will have a new chance to be rebuilt accordingly.

Under Henry Christophe era, he maintained an educational system where everyone, mostly children had opportunity to go to school He was monitoring also their acadademic achievement . As I learned, at this period it was required in High School to study english, spanish and french. Hencefourth, he built up strongly the mind of young haitian kids in order to be usefull for the fourthcoming generation.Consequently, until our present time black people from north are very proud of themselves.

It's notorious that our nation is smart, unfortunately some haitia president like Aristid had led this nation toward a wrong way. Now we are paying the consequences, and we don't kow for how long.

@reggycash The brain drain is nothing new in Haiti. It started in 1957 after Papa Doc came into power. And, obviously, it is still going on today. I am big on solutions. What can be done? It would take UNITY among the diaspora to come back home to invest. But before investing in Haiti you need an economic base, infrastructure, double citizenship, less corruption and security. We need millions of Wyclef minded Haitians to come back home and invest to make Haiti better.

By the way I saw Baby Doc while I was in Paris on vacation some years ago. I saw him shopping at a store in les Champs. He told me that he was living modestly in France and that it was not true that he personally stole money. He said he was young and people around him made decisions. He said that there were probably people within his government who stole money but he did not know exactly who. He also said that he knows how to bring investors to Haiti an revive the agriculture.

One thing I like about him is that he's gangster lol them bandits won't be pulling no shit if he was there. But one major problem is he stole too much from Haiti and left the people penniless. Doc and his Father are a HUGE reason why the country has suffered the way it has. If only a leader could emerge who has Aristides charisma and baby docs gangster and some wealth of his own so he doesn't feel the need to ROB the Government Blind. We would have to find that Haitian leader outside of Haiti.

@DUnik16 Although the country would be better under Duvalier now, we do have to remember that Papa Doc chased the peasants and farmers off their lands and gave the land to his Tonton Macoutes. As you can see the effects today, the peasants and farmers left the countryside to find work in the capital which created an overpopulation of the capital. Furthermore, Papa Doc sold haitian sugar cane cutters to the Dominican Republic when Haiti could have produced its own sugar and agriculture.

La Gonave is big enough to be a department. 10 departments, each with a local congress run by an elected governor. Tolls at the borders of each department, this money collected is to maintain the roads. City tax, departmental tax, National tax, business tax & property tax will sustain the government. President as the head of state, Prime minister as the head of government. A supreme court to oversee all the national cases. No coup d'etat president or prime minister can only be made to resign.

@jamesdalphonse1 You are correct James. He did understand the value of the tourist dollar in that Haiti had more security at the time. Haiti was also more manageable at the time. The population has doubled since due to lack of employment and no birth planning. Would Haiti be better now under Duvalier? Certainly. But under the Duvaliers there was the beginning of a brain drain in Haiti whereas educated people left the country.

We must admit that there were hunger, starvation, illeteracy, some degree of violence and pollution in Haiti under the Duvalier regime. However, it was until their downfall we have been witnessing so much barbaric act , such as : roadblock ing, kidnapping, looting, excessive raping, arson, human barbecue, tirenecklacing ( Pere Lebrun) , open gay and lesbian business, lengthy unemployment, despair and aggression, destruction, air pollution, water pollution, sound pollution. Without a divine intrrvention, Haiti's condition, position and situation will be forever without redemption. What a frustration !! Be as it may, we were way safer and happier under the administration of the Duvalier family. Just bear in mind that they are human beings like we are & are subject to errors.

Aristide should be allowed to go back not as a leader but as a common citizen. I am totally against coup d'etat, such is not democratic nor a legal channel. It is about time that our presidents who are corrupt or bad should either be forced to resign or trial. Since exile seems to be an easy way out, this is why we have so many bad leaders. Coup d'etats in Haiti are always supported by the US such is lack of respect to our sovereignty. Those who made the coup d'etats are worse than the US.

Jeez, whats up with the discrepancies between the kind of president Baby Doc was. When i talk to people in Haiti they say that he was the greatest and times were so much better; for example, one haitian dollar equaled one american. But then reporters like this seems to assume that he was all bad. I feel bad for haitian presidents because it seems like just as they are starting to make positive change the US steps in...

Unfortunately most Haitians may not vote for you or me. I know that I can run on a northerner ticket but I would want people to get the wrong ideas thinking I want the North to be independent. Aristide might have had good intensions but his tactics were radical. The poor & illiterate can't develop the country. Haiti needs the elite, the middle class & the dispora whom are mostly professionals. Haiti can only move slowly cause the 80% illiterate is a burden to the development in the 21st century.

Jean-Claude Duvalier is right, Haiti is worse off and the blame goes to Leslie Delatour. Delatour ruined Haiti. Delatour has made Jeanclaudism look good in comparison, though Delatour is just a more purified version of Jeanclaudism. Delatour ran the economy under Namphy where he did great damage, then the US forced Aristide to take him on and Preval after that. When Preval took power the second time Delatour was dead so he married his widow! To get IMF money I suppose!
