Unlike the jealous ones claim, I know Bruce was a martial artist first, and then an actor. I grew up during his time, and I seen Bruce when I was a small child. He was explosive, and I truly do believe the best martial artist in history. I seen the guy not only break boards but also bricks. People just don't think. Have you ever seen how that evil dictator Kim Jun Un's body guards train? One of them would destroy any MMA fight in a real fight it's a fact. Those guys are beasts, but Bruce would've beat even them. A real fight is still different. People might claim that boards and bricks don't hit back, but if someone gets hit by a person, let's say Bruce Lee, who can shatter a brick with a one inch punch, that'll be it. One of two things will happen. It will either be the hospital or the graveyard. Furthermore, Bruce was so fast that the camera couldn't pick him up. He was the fastest man in the world. That was proven so he would've hit them before they even realized he hit them and that would have been game over. Wow! Some people just don't get it! Bruce was the real deal.

In those time he really was, karate was only starting in Europe, USA mainly IMO Shotokan with rather poor abilities of then practicing. The only person who also was very serious and master was Masutatsu Oyama (kyokushin karate), quite different style, more emphasis on strength, power of fists e.tc. cause evolving from Shotokan and Okanawa-te styles. These 2 great Masters were on their own living in different places (Honk-Kong and the US, 2nd Japan with Korean roots). May be I was helpful? Regards

No matter what some might say about JCVD..good or bad....he's always been respectful of other martial arts film stars. Past or present. Never to step on any toes (e.g. Steven Segal). It's undeniable and amazing how many people Bruce Lee inspired in his short time...I'd say of about 5 or 6 years just before his death (when he was making his mark). To have made literally MILLIONS of people want to "be like Bruce Lee" or just to study martial arts. Or to use his life philosophies to be better in what they do. So that we're still talking about him 40+ years after his death. THAT is incredible. That people are still studying JKD. He was NOT a complete martial artist yet "talk a lot". Yes, he could kick and punch. Introduced martial arts weapons to the public. But he never competed. thus, he was never proven. And for me...that means all his talk about how to better strike or fight has no weight. That JKD isn't an art to be taken seriously....why? Bruce put it together without completely studying any martial art. never even mastering a single one. So, how can he (or any one) say what works and what doesn't??? Had he learnt ALL of what there was to learn in ALL the arts he studied...THEN he would be in a place to say something about them. Now had Bruce Lee competed first at the amateur level in some style of martial arts. Beat ALL he fought with ease. Then fount at the elite level. Defeated ALL of them...with EASE. THEN challenged world champions. Beat all of THEM...w/o breaking a sweat. THEN his talk would have meant something. I'd hold him with the utmost respect. But as he was...I'll remember him as a great charsmatic martial arts film star (NOT a "fighter"). I'd say he was the JCVD of the early 70's. Had his own style on-screen. Even JCVD competed...in Belgium..I think in point-fighting. And won at some level.
