By popular demand, here's some subtitles. 0:00 - What would be your thoughts if a torturer had his perceptions changed subsequently to the reading of (your) Jean Genet's works ? - True torturers do not harm, actually. I'm not sure a man may find his thoughts shaped differently by his readings of my work... He might hate what I wrote or otherwise endorse what I wrote.. Besides a torturer isn't one truly in his completeness. Each man makes about everything his own prey. And he's not truly shaped by the hearing of music or the sight of a painting. HE shapes incrementally all of this to finally use it in a way that he considers suitable. 0:53 - But look how Sartre have been altered because of you ! Have you been altered aswell by what Sartre may have written about you ? - Well.. I did really not read entirely what he wrote. It was a bore... Dreadfully boring. 1:12 - Did you felt jubilation or even distress while writing ? - On a single occasion. - On which work ? - "Les paravents". The rest bored me a lot more. But not while I wrote them in order to get out of prison.. The truth is, it appears to me that if all my books were made while I was incarcerated, it was in order to get out of prison.. Once out, they served no more purposes. So, indeed, those books helped me to get out of the hoosegow. But thereafter, what else was there to say ? 2:14 - Is a part of you remained in prison ? - No, a part of me remains more in those countries wretched by the French : Morocco and its 9 millions of poors, Mali and many other countries, more so than prison. 2:39 - I would like to know what are your thoughts knowing that in France, people will no longer get beheaded. - The abolition of the death penalty leaves me completely unmoved. I don't really care that we throw lads in jail either, I'd state that this is a simple matter between them and justice. Not between I and them. Settling of personals scores, between what we call "scum" and the judges, for me is pointless. The abolition of the death penalty is nothing more than a political move. French politics.. I don't give a damn. As long as France does not adopt a 'North - South' international policy, as long as it doesn't bother about its immigrant workers or even its former colonies, I don't care about french politics. That white males get beheaded... it doesn't really move me. 3:57 - What kind of society do you least abhor ? - I can't tell you.. politicaly speaking. I'd say, maybe, on a religious point of view... Evil and Good... are part of human nature and express themselves.. through men and societies. I don't condemn.. I don't know what will come out of those former colonial empires, I don't know what good will come out of them.. I know for a fact what wrong did come out, so perhaps some good did come out aswell ? But this whole thing is inextricably twisted, so much that I won't be completely satisfied with any political system. Building a democracy in this land that we once called 'mainland' equals building oncemore a democracy standing against those black or arabic countries, so to speak, outside of Europe. I don't know well England history, but I think that democracy was flourishing in England when its colonial empire was flourishing aswell and it is known that this democracy wielded over hindis.

I could add english subtitles if the video owner was kind enough to enable the contribution option, which is always disabled by default.

He's looking quite bourgeoisie here - clean shaven with the scarf over his shoulders. I guess that's what happens when you have a few francs in your pocket. So much for the nihilist project...
