Pau NG thank you for this brilliant rarity. Yes - "his most famous work was Messe des morts". The people who commissioned the Requiem, by coincidence, did not pay for it. So Gilles sealed his score with his will in which he asked the Chapter to have this mass sung for the repose of his soul. By alternating soloists and choirs, Gilles' Requiem is undoubtedly the first work to have adopted the concertante form. The Requiem was, however, played around fifteen times at the famous Concert Spirituel in Paris as well as at the funerals of Jean-Philippe Rameau, Stanislas of Poland and Louis XV.

Superbe, une oeuvre magistrale de ce compositeur quasi ignoré en France depuis plus de deux siècles et pourtant un admirable compositeur de l'époque baroque. Il a fallu qu' chef américain (et l'intermédiaire de You tube) Skip Sempe pour tirer d'un injuste oubli ce génie trop tôt disparu, hélas. Merci infiniment de m'avoir fait découvrir cette pépite.

This is a superb choral piece by a rarely heard French composer except his Requiem hardly any of his mainly religious music is played ❤it Pau thank you.
