I've always been curious... how and why did Idagio fund this series? As a cellist, I of course find it incredibly helpful :) but surely it cost an enormous amount to hire a well known soloist to record essentially dozens of masterclasses??

Jean, I have considered you my favorite player of Bach on the cello since I first heard you playing the Prelude of the 3rd. Thank you for this super helpful instructive video. It has helped me really understand what I was missing in order to take my performance of this piece to the next level. You are able to convey so much of what is there by your adherence to your own alignment to Bach and his music. It's truly miraculous. I am so grateful for your generosity for putting this out and also for sharing your love of something so wonderful so others can share the vistas you are able to climb to. Blessings and Merry Christmas! Lory

Thank you Professor. This was amazing as I had similar questions about this prelude now they are answered. Love your fingerings. Greetings from Canada.

Well done! I just learned this piece. Do you have any idea why Yo Yo Ma plays it differently? He plays a D natural at bar 16. He plays it this way live as well as on his recordings.

Different readings in the two main sources, copies by Anna-Magdalena Bach and Kellner. I cannot say right now which source has which.
