Жыл бұрын

Jean Harris: The 1980 murder of Scarsdale diet doctor Herman Tarnower shocks the nation when his lover, the headmistress of a prestigious girls' school, gets arrested and convicted in a sensational trial in the suburbs of New York City.
Some people are famous more for infamous acts than for any talent or skills they possess. This series documents people who are household names because of murders they have committed. Jodi Arias, Erik and Lyle Menendez, Ted Bundy and Drew Peterson are among the killers profiled in the hourlong episodes.

That was the reason why he had given her drugs!!! He did it to keep her down and oppressed..insane to keep her out of thinking to require a share from his and her book.. well, it looks as he used her as the other women as just a narcissistic man. She could not put up with her failure and was really driven crazy with drugs as I see it. The life in prison proved that without drugs and his influence she was quite a smart, hardworking , caring and giving person.

Since not really in a committed relationship, the two of them were using one another for 14 years. After how he had been treating her, highly likely that she was not in love with him anymore, but rather trauma-bonded with Stockholm-syndrome? Such situation becomes a comfort zone - not easy to escape from - where the victim of abuse continues to relate to the abuser. Additionally she herself was quite controlling, and not at all willing to accept that he was throwing her away in favour of another, younger mistress.

@@evernit Gathering from her history the leaving behind of a good husband & marriage; this simply because of her own boredom: Likely that her obsession with the (not so good) doctor probably was secondary to her obsession with herself; with the fact that he did not want her, presenting a challenge? It seems her life actually came together again, because of being found guilty and jailed: As result she obtained the fame - previously denied to her, after working hard on the diet book. The doctor might not have lost his life, had he at least honoured her as co-author?
@evernit
@evernit Жыл бұрын
@@maricamaas2326 The co-author of the Tarnower's book was Samm Sinclair Baker whose name is not even quoted in this documentary. So Harris' real contribution here was rather technical such as editing, proofreading or any other administrative to be fair. Anyway, since when is the editorial staff credited on the book covers, not mentioning that the work was released in the very late 1970s. And the same basically applies even for major songwriters, screenwriters, just like many others in their respective fields to this date. Did she _wannabe co-author_ have any degree in medical science or journalism at least to ever dare demanding of being credited as such? Then she should come up with her own fiction if she worked so hard as she thought, so she would finally see the things in the full picture, not only in those selfish parts that she could desperately relate to herself (BTW: Later at the trial she went even further, declaring she was the main author of the work in fact) Regardless of that, if she claimed to love the man so much, where was her true unconditional love then? Waiting in denial to be discovered yet, along with her name to be soon printed on the cover of the book that took its real creator twice that much education and hard work, huh?

@@evernit Yes, your explanation makes sense: Similar to what happened when she was married, it seems she again had expectations that were not met, simply because they were not warranted. Not for us to really know her deepest intentions. Yet, in the end one is known by their fruit, and accordingly, doubt if she ever really loved the doctor. Rather it was a case of being smitten with the lifestyle she was enjoying, while basking with him in the limelight?

@@maricamaas2326 None of us were there at any point, but based on all matters of the fact she was the only one to be held responsible. Even if it was an accident which is very unlikely, nobody else did cause the whole chain of events which took place that fatal night. She came to his house uninvited, basically in the middle of the night or else just to wake him up, claiming among other so she could get her prescription filled _(even though she didn't really need any if she'd planned commiting suicide)._ She brought a gun with extra ammunition in her pocket. She shot him accidentally(?) four times(!) at close range. She left him bleeding to death rather than getting the man medical help _(either using the other phone if the one in his bedroom failed, alarming his housekeeper who also lived there, or simply driving him to hospital without delay)._ She was a regular visitor at his house, not a stranger that got lost halfway. But nope, none of these logical options would make sense for a disciplinary ex-headmistress. Instead, self-absorbed "Juliet" decides to take her gun for a change - in the meantime, by the way, already broken by her own hand - and took a private drive to reach some remote help, so her "Romeo" may die alone in pain. Well, even Shakespeare in disguise wouldn't buy or sell it elsewhere that she forgot to kill herself...

I mean she made herself a victim of his arrogance in the first place. Men or women should have some principles in their relations. When she was the solo mistress, and she knew he goes with other women, she should have ended it. Not waiting years and getting kicked out in that ugly manner. BTW, I was badly divorced by my ex. I never met another woman, and had no other problems, like alcohol, drugs, etc. My only fault was that I worked 11 hours a day as a taxi driver, and one night I had an accident. I got PTSD, but the F** doctors, and Psykiaters couldn't diagnose it before I go with that problem for four years. Still, I never treated her badly, but she divorced me in her mind in two years and then told me about that. She ruined my life, and I got very angry with her, but I have more respect for humanity and much more love for my son than I think about harming her. I put all the anger into myself and got a new diagnosis because of that. I am not that type of revengeful person, and more important than that, I wish my son has the parents he can have. We cannot only think about ourselves in crisis. Look at your kids, or look at her/his kids, and believe me, you can always find a better solution.

Instead she was not greatful for what she had, and left her husband and protection of her home; for excitement and possible fame and fortune in the world of other men. She had a choice to just leave but he played 2 woman against each other. What did he thinks gonna happen? Even after his death she still loved him. That's why she took her chance at a trail. Yes she was jealous and if he chose the other woman this most prob still have happened but he started this and it got him killed so in essence his also to blame and his punishment was his life. Certainly he was very much in the wrong, and in the end got what was coming to him, because of the wrong choices he was continuously making over many years - as in sowing/reaping. When it comes to her: Not sure if in the end her motivation was about love at all... Rather a case of bitterness and revenge, after being rejected and publicly humiliated? Additional to her craving to be in the limelight, she was arrogant, very controlling, stubborn, not willing to accept advice, or to be told what to do... All these being symptoms of pride that comes before the fall; also why she would not admit publicly to being a drug addict or that she was guilty of murder? IMO she meant to kill him, since if he would not choose to be with her; dead he would not be with anyone else. That she refused to confess her guilt, is just another nail in her coffin. Probably - if she was a male - there would have been much more focus on her dark traits, and she would have been depicted as the monster.

She’s so arrogant and cruel but comes across as a loving woman. She should have walked away and left him alone he was always cheating on her. She wanted to kill him out of revenge.

That's what happened, when u had no morality.. they define her as intelligent, yet she trashed herself with a womaniser? What for? Where's intellectual stand here. Than had guts to become a murderer? Think again. Vanity of man(as human beings) can be weighed as vanity, quote the Books of wisdom.😉🙄🤔🥺🤭🤭

Intellectuel is a wide knowlegible person, even a intellectuel person can have self worth issue’s. If the person had an childhood and her’s selfworth is damaged in a long run. In this case anyway, her selfworth was zero.. She accept so cruel behaviour from a womanizer..

It has nothing to do with the 50s. No one referred to themselves as being "hot" in the 50s.

I have strong feminist views, but come on - she was an angry control freak. Walk away, Jean. Take some responsibility for your own life & learn from others, instead of being so arrogant. In my view, being super smart is like being gifted a Ferrari, but driving it well is a different set of life skills - learn from the good drivers of the slower cars.
