The trio sonata is an Italian invenru ion and as such met a great resistance to be adopted in France. Couperin was the first French composer to write 4 trio sonatas, and chnged his name into an Italian name to get the first played. Its success brought him to telle the truth. If Lully coule efficiently prevent the Italian opera to influence the Franch one, he couls not do anything against the growing success of Italien trio os solo sonatas, ans many composers wrote such sonatas. During the XVIIIth century, we can find in France woodwinds (usuaaly flutes) intead of violins and bassoon to play the continuo with an harpsichord.

This is actually a remarkable piece played very well. It's hard to interpret a composer like Mondonville because we don't have a performance tradition and his music, broadly speaking, is a combination (conscious perhaps) of the best qualities of French and Italian style music. You could interpret in a more French or more Italian way. Personally I think the music screams Italian way even if it was performed by French musicians in France back in the day. I think this group finds a firm, balanced point between the two. I'd go with more intense tempi, faster and slower, but that's just me.
