Don't forget; Jarre made this in 1976 when he was just 20 years old. There was no computers, no softwares. Everything was harder than now. He is a genius.

@@DerekHartley for sure not availabe for making music. i8080 was released in 74; 6502 in 75. software had to be developed first... Midi was released 1982 so there was no standard interface for devices talking with each other. Jarre, Tomita, Elo, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Pink Floyd and so on they were true pioneers in electronic music.

And dont forget how he made it..Not a real studio but just a little space on his parent's home kitchen..8 track recorder few synthesizer's and one little drum machine the Korg Minipops 7...Every time i hear Oxygene or even Equinoxe i have the impression that the original instruments used by JMJ are like "magical".

Back in the late 1980’s I went to a Jare concert when he played on the Isle of Dogs here in the UK and with his famous laser light show which he played lasers with silver gloves. He was on a sound stage about 200 meters from anyone in the middle of an island and played one of the most amazing pieces. The crown went mental when playing OX4. Probably the most genuine and original concept live I’ve every seen.

My father only listened to classical music and when I was a child I was a little bored in his car always listening to the same kind of music! One day I found his cassette holder and between Bach and Debussy there was a certain Jean Michel Jarre ... It was an incredible discovery! There were only two cassettes that weren't classical music: Jarre and The Alan Parsons Project! I realized that my father was a real fool !!! Thanks Dad! Ciao Claudio! Grazie mille per avermi riportato 20 anni indietro con questo pezzone!!! Un abbraccio!

I watched a recent interview with Jarre and is advice for people beginning or working in electronic music was quite simple. We got thousands of plugins nowadays, he just said chose one you like and work with it for a year, forget the rest, squeeze it and then chose another one as a discipline to compose emphatising the creative part. In other words, put yourself a limit when creating to crush your creative part.

100%? I don't think so. He is close enough with the instruments, ears and brain he has. Probably 99.9% precision is possible after original track PCM analysis, and then original sound re-creation. But this is beyond the purpose of this video.

Close enough but certainly not 100%. It doesn' t matter that much since Jarre himself has several very distinctive versions for this (one of them was played in his Live in Europe shows during the Chronology album tour).

Truly a great accomplishment, but not 100% and not unedited real time and not without some work done beforehand. No need to exaggerate, that actually diminishes his phenomenal abilities. I realize you probably talk about a single sound and not the whole piece, but still no need to exaggerate.

The name of synth that JMJ used for the second lead sound is the RMI harmonic synth, an ultra rare additive synth. Used by Isaac Hayes too on the album chocolate chip.
@djashley2002
@djashley2002 5 жыл бұрын
The problem with the RMI HS is that it's not a true harmonic synth (pure sine) - due to the fact that it used digital oscillators made from bog standard logic chips (4000 series, if I remember rightly) there are a lot of additional harmonics on each wave, which leads to complex intermodulation products being produced. As such, it's very difficult to emulate either in hardware or software, although there are a couple of reasonably good VSTs out there, but they're not perfect.

I grew up listening to Jean Michelle Jarre via my dad's vinyl collection. I was amazed that those sounds could be made. Hence a life long obsession with electronic music of all forms.

That last sound needed an HPF filter instead of BPF. And the bassline needed a tiny little wee bit of reverb, but honestly this is the best version of this song I’ve ever heard. Fantastic work.

Good work, but the sound of the main melody is far from being "similar" unless the original keyboard is used. It is difficult to sound like the real Oxygene 4 even for JM Jarre himself.
