I was there in front of the stage for this monumental event for Houston. An outstanding FREE concert. The metal from the fireworks just rained down us during this finale! Plus the entire concert was simulcast on the radio, actually more music than was released on the album and the video.

in 1986 i was 7 years old and I Remember vividly that that was the most amazing thing I had ever listen and seen I was in the other part of the world back then, we were in Brazil and I saw that on TV live I never ever in my life forgot that feeling of some spiritual, or transcended feeling running inside me, so until this day today at 39 I still can feel that amazing, absolutely magical feeling I felt in 1986 when I saw that for the very first time...

I was there! We watched it from the top of my stepdad's car and cried through everything that referenced Ron McNair and Challenger. It was beautiful, moving, and a momentous occasion that I'm glad I was present for.

@cameraman6555 ай бұрын
I was there as well and as I recall, Houston was going through some tough times with the collapse of oil prices, and back then that is what drove Houston’s economy. I don't recall Houston being a whole lot of “fun” with unemployment nearing the double digits and folks leaving, en mass. But, yeah, when Houston was still “Texan” in the earlier part of the 80s when Cowboy hats and boots were everywhere, Gilley’s was rockin’ Pasadena, it was fun still a rough-n-ready town.

I was there too. 12 years old and fully incapable of the awesomeness that to this day plays upon the back of my eyelids. People don't know. You really REALLY can't know that if you weren't there. You missed a true renaissance of music, light and fire meeting perfectly in one Houston sky. It is fair to say that this world, to this day, has seen nothing like it. One of the largest cities in the world exploding in pure beauty and reverence of what what we have achieved and yet what we may yet become

Music amazes human beings, makes them happy, brings them to tears and so so many other things, Monsieur Jarre created something really great then, without any modern computer technique we have nowadays I was eighteen then and i couldn't stop watching the VHScassette, so who the f.... cares if he played really live or playback, he amazed his audience, that's what counts!!

I was there (24), close enough to see both stage & background shows on the buildings. Took a lovely girl I'd just met days before. We brought two bottles of wine & some cheese/bread to enjoy atop a blanket on the bayou shores. As a Houstonian, this was one of the magical nites of my life. Music from another world celebrating my city that was going thru hard times. Evening didn't end with the show--Suzanne & I let our sweet senses rendezvous under sheets that night for our first time ever. .

JMJ out his tree giving 1.3 million people an experience that only one can fathom is unreal and this is a staple of not only the music but how good the show actually is and takes you to another dimension as your watching and listening to it unmatched amd not up for debate

WOW! I was there, my spouse and kids. I am so glad I found this on youtube. That night we were trying to get as close as we could and at 8 p.m. sharp the music started and we with hundreds of cars were on freeways leading into downtown. Drivers stopped their cars got out and enjoyed the show. There was no freeway leading to downtown operable. The traffic shut down. At the end of the show the traffic began to flow again. I hope there are others to visit here and share your similar memories.

There is only one description for this concert , truly awesome . That many people 1.3 million is a worlds record .
@Iain_Metcalf5 жыл бұрын
Was a world record. La Defense 4 years later had over 2 million in attendence and I was one of them. His Moscow concert audience was larger still. Apparently Rod Stewart now holds that record although according to Wikipedia it is actually a tie between JMJ at Moscow and Rod at Rio with 3.5 million each.

I was in the crowd that night, I hosted an all day party for my suburban friends, since I lived downtown, and traffic was impossible. I had met Jean Michelle Jarre in early January of 1986- he had come to Houston to teach astronaut Ronald McNair a saxophone piece. This was the be the first music played in outer space, by the first African American astronaut.
