I had this played at a party in Texas 40 years ago, and the dance floor exploded. I'm still surprised this track wasn't more popular.

Actually he used samples with Fairlight CMI. Back then, samplers were heck expensive so making that song was freaking great. While Oxymore, while using samples like Zoolook with more modern style, the results are mixed, probably because sampling is recently more general and cheaper, even relatively free than in 80-s

This song has AMAZING layering and texture. Not to mention EXTREMELY catchy! Heard this when I was 5 years old and loved it. I searched a while and found the album and the whole thing is surreal and incredible. I own a few Jarre albums now. They just don't make music like this anymore and it's sad. I'll never forget 80's music!!
@Sqlut5 жыл бұрын
Hello, while you are right on your first half and this music, and everything Jarre and Kraftwerk made in this era was awesome, I beg to differ on your point about today's music. Music, and especially electronic music is still evolving in a permanent rebirth fashion, but it's not put on TV or in medias anymore, you have to search it on Internet. A good example is worth a thousand words so just be sure to listen with proper sound equipment and check "KOAN Sound - Viridian Dream", or if you are not in a hurry, quickly look at their album "Polychrome", or the last Tipper album, or Culprate last album "Deliverance". The sound design, the layers, the production quality, melodies, the feeling of the tracks, I hope it would just erase your sadness. If you enjoyed it, I just have about a dozen artists who are pushing forward in their own specific directions
@jlperron47025 жыл бұрын
@@Sqlut I'm checking it out now. Good suggestion. Indeed I am finding it a bit hard to decide on what is good and not so good in terms of electronic music nowadays, being a closet composer myself. Generally if the composer throws in nice changes it tends to make all the difference to may ears. Thanks for the suggestion. The bass in Virian Dreams is pretty out there. But let's face it, Jarre probably had to put in a lot more hard work to get his results then most electronic composers now cuz the computers tend to do a lot of the preprogrammed multi layered textures now. As well as pre-sequenced, or pre-arpeggiated. If you know what I mean.
@Sqlut5 жыл бұрын
@@jlperron4702 Of course. The difference with Jarre is that old electronic producers had to physically produce the instruments in order to obtain electronic sounds such as Kraftwerk did. They had to be physically creative and find new ideas on how they could obtain this snare or that kick that would sound "not that well" compared to today's standards. Today, it's kind of different because we are at a time where every physical "sound machines" are created and easilly available to produce signals. Everything except softwares, and this is where it gets interesting. If you ever check at Tipper's skills, you might see that he also produces softwares that allow him to push the limits further and this is what allows him to create tracks like "Spunion" or "C'est La Vie". Everything available, also means it's harder to master your equipment, in front of an infinity of possibilities, you have to gather an infinity of knowledge, push the limits of an infinity of softwares and maybe, after a decade or production, you may obtain something that sounds really good like Culprate or Tipper, or you might be quickly satisfyed with your work and end up like all these shitty electronic producers who fills the biggest rooms todays. Just a few things about KOAN Sound. This album is the result of 3 long years of work, each minute is the result of more than an hour of produced music. I don't know if it was less or more work than Jarre, but the dedication and high quality results are both presents in my opinion (at least it's way better than 99% of other electronic music for sure), and this is mostly what I wanted to share with you because you seemed a bit disappointed about todays electronic music. ;)
@winterland20113 жыл бұрын
In my humble opinion, in 1984, Kaftwerk had said everything. After Tour de France, maybe after Computer World, music in general got them finally. Electric Cafe was good, but far from being groundbreaking. And after that, you know...Ralf stopped creating anything new (expo 2000, and Tour De France 2003).

+Dixerrn83 Fair Point! But the timber of the sound is just replication digitally by the fairlight, unlike something like a mellotron, which has actual physical samples. Your point's completely correct, but the fairlight doesn't play an actual sample, but just a crude 8 bit representation of it. Still, thanks for the replies!
