Jean Ritchie was brought to my attention because her song, "Now is the Cool if the Day" was performed by my church choir two weeks ago. It moved me to tears.

I used to have an album from Riverside Records called "Singing Family of the Cumberlands". I played it until I couldn't hear the spoken parts as they were so worn out. She told stories of her family and sang the song that went with that story. Jean came to Oakland and did a Kentucky Christmas with our local folks through California Revels.

As of today, Jean Ritchie is still alive. I mention this because you write of her in the past tense.

I hope she likes it.Just click on my name that takes you to all my music videos. I've heard of Jean Ritchie but never took theopportunity to search her obviously rich heritage of music.
