Chaconne from Partita No.2 for violin BWV 1004, transcribed for piano by Johannes Brahms, and played by Jean Rondeau with two hands on harpsichord! One of many flights of imagination on this young musician's debut album IMAGINE. Rondeau describes this feat as "an exercise of squared transcription: violin, the king of instruments in Bach‘s 18th century, transcribed for piano, king
of instruments in Brahms‘s 19th and re-transcribed for harpsichord, to come full circle, back to beginnings, from Bach to Bach, by way of Brahms in a way. And to borrow Brahms‘s phrase, with me at the harpsichord slipping into the violinist‘s shoes."

It's reassuring that there are quite a few young and excellent performers who will be around for my grandchildren to hear playing the most wonderful of music.

Rondeau played this at his Carnegie Hall debut and it was wonderful (as was the whole concert). The video is totally laughable (um . . . is he supposed to be the woodworker who made the harpsichord???) but if it gets the young'n's to tune in I guess it has a role. He has a phenomenal way of creating unique sounds from an instrument that's (in theory) fairly static. I also heard him play Goldberg Variations (also at Carnegie Hall) and that was sublime.

Admit It. You searched For it, whether this video was recommended while watching other interpretation of the work or you looked It Up. I don't know what You're going through, and i personally did lost someone who i thought was my soulmate, but, know there is still good in this world. There Is light at the end of the tunnel. Love Your beloved ones as if there was not a tomorrow. Take care of them. Forgive. Let go. Protect.

This is an amazing performance in every way. It’s a shame about the distracting video. It’s like the videographer got bored of the performance and started filming other shit lying around the room. I’m not interested in the crap lying about, I want to see every moment of this sublime performance.

This is how that Brahms arrangement would've sounded in Bach's time

What I like best about Rondeau is his ability see beyond the notes and the phrasing to an organic conception of the music that is always a revelation. It's not virtuosity so much as vision.

No matter which instrument, this piece hits me hard...it's incredible how deep it sinks into your heart...and it's surprisingly beautiful on the harpsichord in this performer's hands. When it modulates in major key, I feel like someone is whispering me, "it's all right, you can relax and rest, nothing is going to hurt you", followed by the part that has feelings of loss and loneliness, like the sun starts going down and you face is now in the shadow, but still feel alive and someway very positive, taking the fate as it is, holding all the memories of joy and sorrow... it's just unbelievable you feel like going through all the phase of your life and al the emotions you felt so vividly in such a short amount of time.

Perhaps one of the greatest pieces ever written for the violin. Sounds great on any instrument. Love this Harpsichord interpretation ! Bach's musical language is universal and not timber-dependent.

I went to work on Sunday. I'm on the bus to go home. It was raining. Then, it turns to snow now. His music is that moment rain changes to snow. It's so light, peaceful, sad and beautiful.

Ah ! Viva Rondeau !!!!

This is some of the best Bach I’ve ever heard, and I’m including all his other works for different instruments/voices. One thing I love about Jean Rondeau is his sense of musical pacing. You never feel like you’re in a monotonous place in any part of the piece.

I hadn't expected this to be so good. M. Rondeau overcomes the limitations of the harpsichord and creates a wonderful performance.
